Reading have signed striker Jason Roberts from Blackburn for an undisclosed fee.

The 34-year-old has penned an 18-month deal with the Royals, making the drop down from the Barclays Premier League into the npower Championship in search of first-team football.

Roberts has struggled to force his way into the Blackburn team this season, making just 12 appearances and scoring one goal.

However, Reading boss Brian McDermott has seen enough to convince him that the Grenada international can add an extra dimension to his squad, and Roberts could make his debut for the Berkshire outfit against Bristol City at the Madejski Stadium this weekend.

Reading chairman Sir John Madejski was pleased to have landed his latest acquisition, telling the club's official website: "I am delighted that a man of Jason Roberts' calibre has decided to sign for Reading Football Club.

"He will bring enormous experience to the club and I wish him every success in helping his new team-mates."
