A shadow has been cast over Melbourne Storm's preparations for Friday's World Club Challenge by revelations that star player Greg Inglis was involved in an altercation back in Australia.
The Australian Test stand-off, who was left behind to continue his rehabilitation from shoulder surgery, suffered slight injuries in an incident outside a Brisbane hotel last night.
The club said Inglis attempted to play the role of peacemaker but the fact he was there angered Storm chief executive Brian Waldron, who is in England for Friday's game against Super League champions Leeds Rhinos.
"The Melbourne Storm is extremely disappointed Greg has been involved in this incident," said Waldron in a statement.
"We continue to remind all of our players to act in a socially responsible manner and to refrain from placing themselves in potential high-risk situations.
"It is clear in this situation Greg has acted irresponsibly and outside the boundaries of what is expected from anyone associated with the Melbourne Storm."
Melbourne have not indicated whether they will take any disciplinary action but police confirmed no charges will be brought against Inglis, who scored a hat-trick of tries in Australia's 58-0 win over New Zealand last October.
