18-year-old Mike McDonald from Canada landed the jackpot at the latest European Poker Tour event in Dortmund.
The Ontario teenager became the youngest player ever to win a European Poker Tour event and took the &euro933,600 winner's cheque back across the Atlantic with him.
The tournament attracted 411 players to the Casi Hohensyburg and a massive prize fund of &euro3.16 million with three local players Andreas Gülünay, Torsten Haase and Johannes Strassman also at the final table much to the surprise of some big names.
There was a very European feel to the finale with Gulunay taking second and &euro528,500 ahead of Haase (&euro307,000) with Diego Perez Marco of Spain fourth (&euro234,200) and the Swiss Claudio Rinaldi (&euro193,000) edging out Strassmann for fifth.
Triple World Series of Poker bracelet poker winner Daniel Negreanu and Bertrand Grospellier, who won the year opener on the EPT - the Caribbean Poker Adventure - were amongst those to miss out on the big bucks.
McDonald has been in a rich vein of form following a 14th place finish at the final European Poker Tour event of 2007 in Prague plus three final table appearance during Melbourne's recent Aussie Millions.
He took the title when a pair of Kings became a set on the flop and 26-year-old Gülünay, who had bluffed the pot up to $1.4 million only had a pair of sevens, was beaten.
"He was being too aggressive ... I was more or less waiting for him to make a mistake," McDonald said in an interview with the Waterloo Region Record newspaper.
"I'm pretty happy with the way it's all worked out. Obviously I start all tournaments thinking I could win them or I wouldn't play them! Today was good though - when I had big hands, they gave me their chips."
McDonald is the protege of ather Canadian player Steve Paul-Ambrose and he told the Canadian Press that he wasn't at all surprised by McDonald's win.
"Honestly, t really - he's played a few tournaments since turning 18 and it was just a matter of time before a big score. He's a very smart kid."
McDonald also earns a place in April's European Poker Tour Grand Final to be held in glamorous Monte Carlo.
