Champions League - Managers: Benitez guarded

A look at the reaction to Wednesday night's Champions League action, with Rafael Benitez refusing to be drawn on speculation over his future.

Real Madrid 0-1 Liverpool

Rafa Benitez: "It's a fantastic night and I am not considering resigning. I will keep working and trying to win games and will talk to the owners in the future. I think my lawyer was talking with the owners today but we'll speak in the future. There are important games coming up and I want to concentrate just on the games, and I'll keep in touch with the owners.

"We came to play on the counter-attack and work hard in defence. Credit goes to the players because they worked very hard to adhere to our tactical plan."

Juande Ramos: Liverpool's main strength tonight was their defence. They didn't take any risks and hardly created any chances apart from the one where they scored which came from a set play. We are down by one goal but are only halfway through the tie. They have the advantage but we are capable of going and winning at any stadium."

Chelsea 1-0 Juventus

Guus Hiddink: "If I had to motivate a player, then I think I start fighting with him or neglecting him, generally speaking. I have not had this problem at all with (Didier) Drogba. I'm satisfied with the win but overall I'm not satisfied. We started very well, we opened them up through the wings and were very dangerous. But after the goal we dropped back too far and got a bit anxious and Juve came into it much more."

Claudio Ranieri: "I have to say I was extremely happy with the reception, because it showed they had not forgotten me. I spent four years here and I enjoyed them. I would like to thank them for the reception. But scoring an away goal in a match like this could have been better for us. We knew going into the game that it would be difficult. That's why it was important for us to try and get a goal."

Sporting 0-5 BayernMunich

Paulo Bento: "The feeling is one of frustration. It's not normal to lose with this type of result in this phase of the Champions League. (Sporting became) disorganised in the second half and let the more experienced and mature Bayern take control of the game".

Juergen Klinsmann: "The result is positive for us as it opens the road to the quarter-finals. It is positive, especially since the last games did not go that well for us, but we cannot become overly enthusiastic and must prepare calmly for the match on Sunday against Werder Bremen."

Villarreal 1-1 Panathinaikos

Manuel Pellegrini: "It's a very unfair draw. We played well enough to earn a two-goal advantage but they found a goal they didn't deserve. The tie is still open. Panathinaikos were very defensive, virtually playing with six defenders and two players ahead of them, yet they got a good result while we failed to convert our opportunities."

Henk Ten Cate: "We got what we wanted. We got an away goal, we didn't lose against a very good team that played at times fantastic football. Villareal are a better team than us."
