Capecchi's Swiss success
Liquigas-Cannondale claimed victory for the second successive year in the GP Citta di Lugano as Eros Capecchi took the win.
The Italian was the strongest man at the end of the 178.5 kilometre race which comprises five laps of a figure-eight shaped, 35.7km circuit.
Capecchi finished four seconds clear after attacking near the summit of the final climb with 4km remaining and holding off the bunch.
Damiano Cunego (Lampre-ISD) won the sprint for second ahead of Enrico Battaglin (Colnago-CSF Inox).
Tour de France champion Cadel Evans finished in the main bunch, 40 seconds back, as Capecchi got the better of a good field that also included Ivan Basso, Nicolas Roche, Danilo Di Luca and Michele Scarponi who crashed on the final descent.
