De Canio warned over transfer plans

Wed 26 Mar, 04:30 PM

QPR Holdings chairman Flavio Briatore has warned Luigi De Canio that the club's new kit sponsorship deal will not mean a summer spending spree.Rangers signed a deal with kit manufacturers Lotto on Tuesday that could be worth £20m should the club gain promotion to the Premier League.

Briatore, who owns the majority of shares in the London club along with Bernie Ecclestone and billionaire Lakshmi Mittal, has stated that the cash bonanza will not translate into a blank cheque for De Canio to bring in new faces.

"I don't see the sponsorship deal changing our programme. We've put a programme together to strengthen the squad that's independent of the sponsorship," he told Sky Sports News.

"Of course we need to improve, but we have plenty of time to do that."
