Chairman John Fenty says Grimsby would struggle to survive if they did not relocate to a new stadium, which is expected to happen in 2010.Fenty, who expects the Mariners to move into their new Conoco Stadium close to the town centre by the summer of 2010, outlined why it is imperative the club says goodbye to Blundell Park, their home since 1899.
Fenty said: "We've got aspirations to relocate. At Blundell Park we can't make ends meet. If we leave the football club where it is, it's not sustainable.
"We need to move, so we can meet what families want. We've got all sorts of parking issues and all of those things limit the gates.
"So we have to move. We have to get more bums on seats and what comes with that will be some new seven-day income streams.
"The problem with football at the moment is that you've got 23 pay-days and 365 days of expenses and it just does not work the way it's set up. Additional income streams are essential to make the whole thing stack up."
