Jack Cork's suspension is a major blow to Scunthorpe's Championship survival hopes, according to midfield partner Jim Goodwin.England Under-19 international Cork, on a season-long loan from Chelsea, will sit out three matches after being sent off with Ipswich striker Pablo Counago for an off-the-ball incident on Saturday, in which Counago was accused of slapping the Iron player.
Goodwin told the club's official website: "He's been a key player for us. We would be in a hell of a lot worse situation if it was not for him.
"He has been one of our key players all season and is going to be a massive loss."
Cork, son of former Wimbledon striker Alan, will miss crucial games against relegation rivals Leicester and Sheffield Wednesday and the trip to Crystal Palace.
