Walsall manager Richard Money would like to add a central defender to his faltering squad before the transfer deadline closes on Thursday.The emergency loan deal window closes at 5pm and Money has just three centre-backs at his disposal.

In addition to first-choice pairing Anthony Gerrard and Ian Roper, 19-year-old reserves captain Manny Smith is the only other recognised centre-half at the club and he has not figured for the first-team for almost a year.

"If I could find a central defender then I think we would have to think about doing that," said Money. "I am not pointing the finger at anybody at all, but we only have very young cover there."
