Topham Tempter For George

Wed 26 Mar, 01:09 PM

Tom George will bide his time before deciding whether to run Nacarat in the John Smith's Topham Chase at Aintree next week.

The French import made a bright start to his British career, winning by 14 lengths at Wincanton in January, and proved a subsequent disappointing run all wrong when finding only Natal too strong in the Connaught Gold Cup at Newbury.

Nacarat currently sits on 10st 1lb in the Topham weights, with Racing Post Chase winner Gungadu topping the list on 11st 12lb.

George said: "It hasn't been decided yet whether he goes to Aintree.

"He has the entry there but we'll keep our options open and see where we go. He's fit and well.

"I was thrilled with him last time when he ran a great race at Newbury and was probably a little unlucky to be beaten on the day.

"He needs a bit of time between his races and that's exactly what we've done with him again - he's fresh and well."

George elected to bypass Cheltenham with Nacarat, but many interesting Topham entries were seen in action at Prestbury Park.

Among those are Andreas (11st 6lb), fourth in the Grand Annual, Gold Cup sixth Knowhere (11st 5lb) and his stablemate Fundamentalist (10st 13lb), who ran twice inside three days but finished third in the Racing Post Plate.
