The 13th seeded Briton, in the top half of the draw with world number one Roger Federer, will face the winner of the first-round match between Rotterdam semi-finalist Simon and Ancic, who he beat in the Doha final earlier this year.

Federer, meanwhile, will face either Frenchman Gael Monfils or American giant John Isner in his second round match.

The Swiss star is coming off of a surprise semi-final exit at last week's Indian Wells Masters to unseeded American Mardy Fish, and has yet to win a title this season in three tournaments.

American number one Andy Roddick is in Federer's quarter of the draw, while world numbers two and three Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic share the same half.

The defending champion Djokovic, fresh off of his second major title of the season at Indian Wells, will face either Argentine Augustin Calleri or a yet-to-be named qualifier in the second round.

Spain's Nadal faces either Argentine Sergio Roitman or a qualifier in the second round.

British number two Alex Bogdanovic was unable to qualify for the main draw, falling to Serbia's Viktor Troicki 6-4 3-6 6-1 in the qualifying event.
