Ole Einar Bjorndalen claimed his sixth overall World Cup title after finishing second in the sprint race at Khanty Mansiysk in Russia.
The 35-year-old Norwegian now leads Tomas Sikora of Poland, who was 18th, by an unattainable 124 points in the overall standings with just two races remaining.
Young German Arnd Peiffer took a maiden World Cup victory, the 20-year-old shooting clear and crossing the line in 25 minutes, 51.1 seconds.
Bjorndalen, who only missed his ninth shot, also captured the crystal globe for the sprint discipline title after finishing 23.1 seconds back.
That was 4.2 seconds quicker than Austria's Christoph Sumann with Bjorndalen's compatriot Emil Hegle Svendsen taking fourth.
Bjorndalen has seven wins this season, taking his tally to a record 89, and also won four gold medals at the World Championships last month. He previously won the World Cup overall title in 1998, 2003, 2005, 2006 and 2008.

ALL THE WAY WITH OLE!!
Ole is the best sportsman of all time. Takke Ole fordi eksistere. Farvel. Elena
Wish Ole would give Roger Federer a call and give him some tips on how to keep your head in the game and maintain such a high level of performance through so many years. I think Ole is the best athlete of all time of any sport, no one else comes even close!

King Ole is back on top of the world again. He's carismatic and respected. He's my only favourite sportsman.Congratulation!!!
Fantastic, Ole! Keep up the good work and we'll see the same amazing results in the olympics. I actually heard that he's going to go on until 2014. Until then we're waiting for the 100th world cup win.
I have been a fan of Ole for so many, many years. I cheered for him when he claimed 4 olympic golden medals and every time I hope he is the winner. Since I moved into my new home I don't follow Biathlon that much but Ole and Halvard (Hanevold) are my biathlon heroes. Ole because he is like superman and Halvard because he is such a nice and fun guy. To read this makes me happy. I hope Ole will continue a couple of more years and claims more victories.
i m a german fan but i respect ole and peiffer will be the future champion
Super-duper Ole ! His wins and podiums are looking so easy, that you starting to think, why others can't do that. I really will say more, but all words just looking so useless... The're no words to describe this guy.
Mythical King Ole!!!!! I must agree with firassade33. After him Biathlon will be far less spectacular. I hope Ole goes at least till 2012. Go Ole!!!!
ole is an absolute legend.I have no idea who is gonna watch Biathlon after he retires.
Way to go, Ole!!!! You're amazing!
AMAZING. 6th overall title. He seems unstopable. having in mind that he actually missed half of the season - the first half - illness along with not so good race results.... who could have thought it would end up this way - 2 races before the end he is a one way winner..... CONGRATULATIONS OLE
