Former Schalke coach Huub Stevens has denied speculation linking him with a return to the struggling Gelsenkirchen club.

Traditionally title challengers, Schalke are languishing mid-table in the Bundesliga and they sacked general manager Andreas Moeller earlier in the month.

A home defeat to Hamburg has not helped matters and, with the pressure moving to head coach Fred Rutten, his fellow Dutchman has been tipped for a return to Germany.

Stevens's abortive spell at PSV came after he left Germany in 2008 to tend to his sick wife in the Netherlands and he is not interested in yet more upheaval.

"There is far too much unrest at the boardroom with Schalke," he said.

"I would like to work in peace.

"Anyway, no-one from the club has got in touch and it is not a call I am waiting for. I have other offers which I will look at in my own time."
