Belgium playmaker Steven Defour has called suitors Aston Villa an "amazing" club but admitted that any decision on his future lies with Standard Liege.

The 20-year-old has recently been linked with Villa, but is aware any transfer would need the approval of his current employers.

"I am ready to go abroad," Defour told Het Nieuwsblad. "But if Standard want me to stay, I'll stay. Standard will only want to let me go to a top club."

Defour admits Villa are a tempting prospect for him after their successful season.

"Villa are fifth in the Premier League, three points behind Arsenal, and that's not bad," he added.

"They're an amazing club but Standard Liege must decide whether they are good enough or not."

If Standard do put the brakes on a move overseas, Defour expects to be rewarded for staying with the Jupiler League club.

"I still have a contract until 2013. But if Standard refuse an offer, they have to give me something in return," he said.

  5. Lets hope platini also hands out stiffer panaltie to players who play act when they get the slightest of knocks and also reccommends half of them to the olympic swimming team for diving. Because at the end of the day they are fixing matches.

I also think he should resign. Were the spanish fa not fined paltrey amounts of cash because of racism towards english players? whatever the outcome the clubs in question will be given paltry fines and then it is business as usual for those clubs in question. I say kick whoever cheats, tries to change football matches, where it hurts. Thats the only way to be rid of all the problems surrounding European football.

By banishing the clubs in question. Were english clubs not banished from european games in question because of Heysel? Bring back that uefa president who was in charge when heysel occurred. The game would be far better today if he was.
