Top two drop points in France

Sat 26 Apr, 10:45 PM

Bordeaux could not take advantage of dropped points by French Ligue 1 leaders Lyon on Saturday as they failed to score at home against Nice.Les Gones remain on course for a fourth successive league title, even if they are making slow progress after a 2-2 draw at home to Caen.

Karim Benzema scored the first of his two goals in the 34th minute to put Lyon ahead but Juan Eluchans levelled for the visitors four minutes later.

Caen took the lead in first-half stoppage time through Lilian Compan and the champions looked to be in trouble when Fabio Grosso was sent off a minute into the second half.

But France international Benzema drew Lyon level with a goal eight minutes later.

And, although Lyon could not find a winner, Bordeaux's goalless draw against Nice means they remain four points clear.

At the other end of the table, Paris St Germain boosted their survival hopes with a 3-1 win over Auxerre thanks to two goals from Amara Diane.

Pedro Pauleta put the capital side ahead after three minutes and Diane scored his first 10 minutes later.

Auxerre pulled a goal back in the 77th minute through defender Jean-Pascal Mignot but Diane made sure of PSG's second win since January 23 with a goal five minutes from the end.

PSG stay third from bottom but are now level on points with Lens and Toulouse, who both lost, while Auxerre are now only three points above the relegation zone.

Lens were rarely in their match against Le Mans, who went 2-0 up thanks to goals from Daisuke Matsui in the 20th and 24th minutes.

Aruna Dindane cut Le Mans' lead in half with a strike in the 34th minute but Marko Basa restored the two-goal lead five minutes into the second half.

Kevin Monnet-Paquet made it 3-2 with six minutes left.

Toulouse conceded three goals in the first half of their 3-2 defeat to Lille.

The visitors actually opened the scoring in the 25th minute through Nicolas Dieuze.

Kevin Mirallas equalised five minutes later and Michel Bastos converted a 40th-minute penalty.

Mirallas's second made it 3-1 after 42 minutes and, although Fode Mansare gave Toulouse some hope with his 62nd-minute goal, they left the Stade Lille-Metropole empty-handed.

Sochaux picked up a valuable point in their fight against relegation by drawing 1-1 at home to Lorient.

Yann Jouffre put the visitors ahead two minutes from half-time but Mevlut Erding equalised in the 80th minute to move Sochaux five points clear of the drop zone.

Second-bottom Strasbourg remain three points from safety after a 3-0 drubbing at Rennes.

Mickael Pagis netted twice, the first in the 32nd minute and the second in first-half stoppage time, either side of Fabien Lemoine's 34th-minute strike.

Already relegated Metz were beaten 1-0 by St Etienne, who remain in European contention thanks to a Bafetembi Gomis goal three minutes into the second half despite having had Geoffrey Dernis sent off before the break.
