Doncaster chairman John Ryan labelled boss Sean O'Driscoll as "the Arsene Wenger of League One" after Rovers won promotion to the Championship.Rovers produced an eye-catching display of crisp passing and counter-attacking football to overcome Yorkshire rivals Leeds in a deserved 1-0 victory in the League One play-off final at Wembley.
Leeds goalkeeper Casper Ankergren was forced to make two good saves in the opening 10 minutes but was helpless to prevent James Hayter taking advantage of dismal marking to head in a 47th-minute corner and bring Championship football to the Keepmoat Stadium next year.
Ryan said: "It is an incredible achievement and it just shows you what you can do in football.
"I actually think we play Championship football already and we play some of the best football around.
"Sean has done a fantastic job. He is understated and doesn't like the limelight but I call him the Arsene Wenger of League One.
"He'll have to be the Sean O'Driscoll of the Championship now though.
"We like to play football and I am confident we will acquit ourselves well in the Championship."
Ryan has masterminded an impressive change in fortunes for the club since taking the helm 10 years ago.
Just five years ago the club were playing non-league football but Hayter's crucial strike was enough to cap a third promotion in five years and consign Leeds to a second season of third-tier football.
Ryan said: "Five years ago we were in non-league football and Leeds were playing in the Premier League.
"David beat Goliath here and I think quite deservedly too.
"We've achieved three promotions in five years and I can't imagine another team has gone from the Conference to the Championship as quickly as we have.
"When I became chairman in 1998 I made four promises to the fans.
"I said I'd get a new stadium which we did, I said I'd get us back into the Football League which we did.
"I said I'd get us to a final at Wembley and we've had this game and a Johnstone's Paint Trophy final at Cardiff.
"And I said we'd get back into the Championship where I first watched Doncaster play in 1958 and we've closed the circle after 50 years.
"But I think they should make a promise to me now to come and support us next year in their droves."
