Former Milan and Watford striker Luther Blissett reveals why it's grim up north.
Which opponent did you enjoy beating more than any other?
I was a Manchester United fan as a kid, and I played against them for the first time in 1978. We beat them 2-1 at Old Trafford, and I scored both goals. That was very special, playing against the team I idolised growing up.
What would you have done if you hadn't been a footballer?
I probably would have been a mechanic.
What's the best freebie that you've ever blagged?
It wasn't exactly a blag, but I got asked to race around Brands Hatch by a car manufacturer, and I jumped at the chance.
What was the first car you had?
A Vauxhall VX 490 (blank expression on the face of 60 seconds). You look it up, you'll see it was a beauty!
What is your culinary speciality?
For a dinner party, it would be something like salmon, vegetables, maybe a bit of mash.
What's the worst place you've ever visited?
This could be a bit nasty, couldn't it. One of the grounds up north, I'm trying to remember which one. It had a really tiny dressing room, you had to take shifts to get changed in there. Most of them up north weren't very good!
Have you ever been mistaken for another celebrity?
Yeah, John Barnes! Kenny Lynch was another one.
What song would you sing at karaoke?
That's Life.
What's your most extravagant purchase?
When I was at Watford I bought a Renault GTA. I remember it being delivered to the pre-match hotel and all the other players eyeing up this big beast of a thing. When it was time to go home after the game, I nonchalantly strolled up to it and drove off in front of all the other players!
What did you make of the group of Italian guys who wrote that novel under the name Luther Blissett?
I thought that was all very good. The only disappointing thing was that that book was in the bestsellers list for about a month, and I never got a penny in royalties.
Luther Blissett was speaking to Tony Mabert at a charity football match at Stamford Bridge in aid of the Cystic Fibrosis Trust. To find out more go to www.cftrust.org.uk

Luther never got the recognition he deserves as a player whereas John Barnes did, he was a great player and is as ever a true gentleman off the pitch always has time to chat to fans, he deserves better in his sports career.
