Former Celtic skipper Tom Boyd believes Gordon Strachan's departure was inevitable as he began to lose the backing of the supporters.
Strachan quit the Glasgow giants 24 hours after Rangers clinched the Clydesdale Bank Premier League title, ending his own quest for four straight championships.
Opinion had always been split among the Parkhead faithful, even when Strachan delivered success both at home and in Europe and Boyd told Scotland Today: "There was an inevitability about it. I was speaking to a lot of the supporters at a function on Sunday night and there weren't many who were defending Gordon. When you get that kind of opinion, then, ultimately, I think the manager will lose out."
Former Celtic midfielder Murdo MacLeod believes Strachan's departure may be the first of many changes at Parkhead this summer.
"Striker-wise, the middle of the park needs to be freshened," he told BBC Radio Scotland.
"The strikers (Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink and Georgios Samaras), the two of them struggled all year. It's maybe time for both of them to move on and get a new team-mate up front for Scott McDonald.
"The centre-backs, I think they're strong enough in that area. Full-back could be strengthened.
"(Artur) Boruc might want to leave in the summer as well, so there could be a lot of changes happening within Celtic Park."
Former Celtic striker John Hartson claims Strachan was forced out by fans who "hated" him.
Hartson, who played under Strachan at Parkhead and Coventry, told Setanta Sports News: "I saw it coming, the fans have got their wish. I feel sad for Gordon but not that sad because it's been very difficult working in the circumstances he has, with regard to how the fans felt towards him."

Rangers fans are the scum off the earth (not all-but the mindless minority) - once again - looking for trouble, beat up a pregnant woman , kill a man , and batter his wife (widow now) - how cowardly - and u won the league! - what would they have done if Celtic had won the league ?
Its totally wrong
Hey Marty, feel good being associated with men (tiny willied we boys) who kill Pizza delivery people??
Wee bit of info...the trouble at Parkhead was some Rangers fans noising up/banter with the Celtic fans and it was THE CELTIC fans who started throwing bottles and stones at the Rangers fans!!! The Rangers fans started to get aggressive then the idiot next to me says 'typical rangers always starting trouble'?? No they were being bottled and starting mouthing off....quite right!! Celtic should finally get rid of the 'woe to me' attitude, it is waring thin, very thin.
Hey Lucy"fish fanny".....feel proud to be associated to the thugs who beat up pregnant women?
Proven again huns scum on earth.
Aye Murdo need more players but with Reid and Lawwel not parting with the money for wages whos playin for nuthin these days aprt from the numptees Strachan brought in at SEPTIC Reid and Lawwel must stay hello hello up the Gers come back Strachan SEPTIC love ya HONEST...
I am sorry to see him go almost 4 titles in 4 years speaks for itself but I feel Strachan made a major mistake this January by not keeping Sheridan as he failed to get Fletcher what difference would 2 or 3 goals have made by either of these guys ? A 4th championship ?
For t10guitars ..so celtic fans don't cause violence ever !!!! well i stay in middle of mowhere in perthshire..and lo and behold my car was vandalised cos Celtic never won !!! ....not the first time that the so called angelic celtic fans have caused trouble up here when they don't win !!!
Truth of the matter is both sets of fans have the minority of hooligans who cause trouble when there teams lose...both as bad as each otherwhen it comes to this . while the religious bigotry, and irish nonsense remains it will continue to happen!!!
Strachan is a wee wan.ker, couldn't take the heat when his teams bottle crashed!!!!!!!!!!! hahahahahaha get it right up you.
t10guitars - I put that comment to you and stub1 and again all rangers fan in manchester? I think your referencing all rangers fan there and the majority of people there did not see anything, it was in 1 area the fight broke out and how many arrests out of 120,000 supporters in manchester and how many from Glasgow were arrested? anyway the point remains. We label a couple idiots against there team and unfortunately thats how it happens but anyone with half a mind know thats complete @#$%. You have experiences? how are you in these situations more than once? Celtic fan i assume, correct me if wrong? I am assuming that Celtic fans have never attacked anyone after a game? Stop labelling rangers when every team has them.
14... you may want to check what i said again as i never mentioned what happened to that poor guy in Northern Ireland, i was talking about the trouble in Glasgow on sunday after the football where rangers fans attacked celtic fans which i witnessed for myself. I am only drawing from my own experience what i saw and not for the first time either. It just seems that when rangers fans should celebrating on a great occasion they want to fight as was witnessed by the whole of Britain on tv screens last may in manchester.
Agreed markcunn, there are a^*(^@s from any supporters side, using the colour of a football top as a mere excuse to fight on the streets using a result comes from an uneducated mind.
t10guitars + stub1 - What truth? please explain your reasons as so far there has not been any? The person killed was in Northern Ireland and they were part of a group called UDA and yes it was religously motivated attack and happened to come after a rangers/celtic game but no matter who is playing these guys will attack at any time. This attack had nothing to do with the game as the people attacked had not or were wearing anything to do with Celtic and were just Catholic and before anyone says, they are not linked because of there religon and even if the guy did support celtic it was not a football related attack, also like any war regarding religon is makes no sense and gets linked with anything to make a story. So please people get a grip, the thugs from both sides always meet after a old firm game and usually when the other team wins the story comes from the other side. I could easily start trouble by saying all 50,000 fans at park head were involved in throwing things at the hearts support on Sunday after the game? i bet it was like 100-200 thugs tops? but no wanting to mention that? every team has there @#$% fans and just a case of getting on with it and coming together instead of blaming everything or everyone associated with the club?
strachan was liked by most fans, it was more down to the media who sensationalise the minority who disliked him for not being a "celtic man", and because of this it was only a matter of time before he walked... Wim jansen was not a celtic man and is still remembered fondly by the fans, so it doesn't mean if you have an affiliation to the club that it will automatically bring success.
I think Strachan was less popular at septic than he was at Coventry.
Good-bye Strachan.

Pt6...Can you explain why "the minority of thugs" went looking for Celtic fans less than a mile from Celtic Park to "goad them" after winning the league!!!!!!..also why an innocent man was killed, his protestant wife beaten along with a pregnant women.....the minority phrase is being used a little to often in regards to this mindless violence and DEATH.....thank god Rangers never lost the league
Boyd saying we have a strong defense??? lol i wont even go there and to blame a sector of fans for leaving Celtic isn't any excuse,he'll be in Sunderland suit n tie before end of week.
6.. Truth hurts.
@t10guitars:
Yeah because we were all out causing chaos on Saturday weren't we? Every single one of us got in trouble and were arrested. You sir are a small minded idiot. Because a minority of thugs caused some trouble, we're all immediately incriminated with them.
