Barton future to be decided

Sat, 26 May 09:07:06 2012

Joey Barton will discover in the next two weeks whether he has a future at QPR.

The club have confirmed they will not appeal the 12-match ban handed down in response to his sending-off and subsequent actions in the defeat to Manchester City on the final day of the Barclays Premier League season.

An internal investigation is now under way at Loftus Road and it remains to be seen what additional sanctions the club will impose on their captain, signed last summer on a lucrative four-year deal following a free transfer from Newcastle.

QPR are set to head out to Asia for a pre-season tour in mid-July but whether Barton will be part of that travelling party is uncertain.

Barton, 29, was hit with the lengthy ban and fined £75,000 by a Football Association-appointed independent regulatory commission on Wednesday, after being dismissed for elbowing Carlos Tevez, then kicking out at Sergio Aguero as he left the pitch in the match on May 13, before aiming a headbutt in the direction of Vincent Kompany.

There will, however, be no appeal.

  1. Move him on. More trouble than he is worth. Easily replaceable.

  2. No place in football for him. Needs to see an Anger Management Counsellor. But everywhere he's been he's been trouble. Get rid of him QPR. He is not the sort of example that you want kids to look up to. Transfer list him for the good image of the club. Maybe that's what he is doing in Portugal, right now. Somebody will take him, and then how long before he receives his first red card or ends up in trouble with the locals.

  4. Tevez made a meal of the elbow it wasnt that clear whether contact was made as for Kompany getting involved he is no Angel and Aguero asking the ref to send him off by brandishing a fake card thats Foreign players for you these things happen its a mans sport 12 match ban seriously Harsh and uncalled for if Hughes had a pair he would appeal

  6. Waste of space and a disgrace to the beautiful game of soccer. If I have my way, I would ban him for life from playing football and also from watching football even on his own television.

  11. all you guys commenting here were not at the scene. yet you find it OK to vilify Barton. Were the other guys St Peter & perhaps Angel Gabriel? Learn to analyse facts before judging others. By the way how many of you can turn the other cheek? Barton has a right to defend himself and so do you!

The FA had decided that City should win the title and Barton was proving to be a deterrent to that and so he had to be sent off. It would have been a fair decision if both the Argentine Cretins (Kun and Tavez) had also been sent out. To cover teir own foul deeds the FA slapped 12 match ban.

  18. Barton is NOT what we need as a CLUB CAPTAIN. He should be stting examples to the younger players and showing them how to be a thug. That is what he has shown to every supporter of football. We need to make an example of so called players like him. They should get a life time ban from playing football at a prof standard, no matter how skillful they are. Barton has let himself but more importantly the club down with his actions on the pitch this season. He should be sacked by the club without compensasion, due to his action since we signed him. This is not acceptable for any player let alone the so called CLUB CAPTAIN. I was please when we signed him but he ahs made us as a club the laughing stock of the prem league.

  19. Come on let us know if he is in or out already! Hopefully out after his disgraceful display this season! We need at least 6 new players for next season, at least 1 good forward and 1 new keeper! Infact maybe 7 so we have a back up for when Cisse gets bans for more bad tackels! Come on Hoops this is are season to show everyone what we can do!

  20. Barton must go after the disgraceful display we witnessed at Man City which we could have won.Sack him without compensation as I cant recall any player, let alone QPR's Captain losing his head like that.He is a Liability, and you know what they say " A Leopard Never Change's His Spot's,However,We are the Superhoops lol.Our next aim must be to compete for a place in Europe, but unless we get some quality player's in the Transfer Window, forget it.I hope Tony Fernandes can find some money for this, and we really can start competing.
