Premier League - Agent: United want Benzema

Manchester United want to sign Karim Benzema but Lyon should not ask for more than £35 million, according to the player's agent.

"(Sir Alex) Ferguson wants Karim this summer," representative Karim Djaziri was quoted saying by the Daily Mail. "However his transfer fee will not be above £35m.

"He is only 21, the only time a transfer of a 21-year-old went so high it was Robinho's transfer to Real Madrid (from Santos).

"Karim can't be valued higher than David Villa, who will cost more than £40m."

Lyon have been playing hardball over Benzema, who has also attracted interest from Real Madrid and Chelsea.

They initially insisted he would cost upwards of £60m but admitted they would take less if the player wanted to leave.

Both Benzema and his club previously stated that he will stay at Stade Gerland until after the 2010 World Cup.

    United are DOOMED! The loss of Ronaldo has really­ screwed 2009/2010 season up big time!
    It's not just­ the loss of our best player, it's the way the £80m­ transfer has effected the market. Players' price­ tags have risen up considerably as clubs will say to­ themselves 'well, if Ronaldo is worth £80m then our­ player is worth £40m etc etc'. Teams will also want­ to charge United more as they know the Reds have just­ pocketed £80m from the Ronaldo deal.
    I think the loss­ of Tevez is a blow too and United will need some real­ swift signings if they are to compete with Liverpool­ and Chelsea next season.
    This truly is a sad time for­ all Manchester United fans :-(

  8. When crazy fees are needed to buy a single player why­ won't other clubs treat their own stars like little­ gods.

    Karim is a talented young man who also deserves­ some respect like the likes of the­ Kaka,C.Ronaldo,Sheva,L.Messi are co.

    Lyon hold on to­ your asset because you need him to save your face next­ season except if the player in question wishes to move­ to any club.

  19. Huntelaar and Wesley Sneijder , plus if surplus to­ requirements Rossi , team these up with what we have­ experience and youth we will be fine. Sneijder is a­ good free kick taker and we will need one next season.­ PS who will take the penalties (No Berbatov)
    £50 Mil­ should be about enough.
