Phil Brown has asked Michael Owen for the chance to sell him a move to Hull.
The Tigers boss is yet to contact the 29-year-old former England international - and his club was not among those sent a glossy brochure outlining his qualities.
However, he is hoping to arrange face-to-face talks after Owen's Newcastle deal expires at midnight next Tuesday.
Brown told Sky Sports: "He is still connected to a football club, we haven't been given permission by that football club to talk to him, so we will honour that.
"But he will be available from July 1 and hopefully Michael will give us the time of day and we can get around a table, then who knows?
"Yes, it is one we are interested in. It isn't a throw-away comment, it is a genuine interest."

owen will never, ever sign for hull . . . FACT!
if he had 1 ounce of dignity he would've departed nufc immediately after our last game foregoing any monies due to him...
fat chance... fat wallet!!!
Waste of time money and space. Useless at Newcastle, no committment, no goals, lazy and was still given the captaincy nd look what happened with players fighting each other on d pitch owen nowhere in sight nd shay given tryn ta seperate them. Phil Brown should walk away from him and concentrate on getn gud young players wth premier league experience.
comment 5, your a Rochdale fan then. It's a nice thought and I agree you would fill your ground with many locked out but I dont think Owen would do enough in the 15/20 games he would play to guarentee promotion for you.
Also, the lad does'nt want to be hero worshipped, as he said, he's got skin like a rhino's backside and only guarenteed hard cash will entice him to his next club.
agree with tony we don't want him sitting on the bench sucking his thumb if phil brown wastes money on owen he should be on the dole before august
Michael Owen was a brilliant, super-paced striker when he was in his early twenties. One-on-one against any defender in the world, he would win hands down and set himself up for a strike. The problem for Michael is that that was his only quality, and that sort of pace diminishes around the age of 27/28. True, he still has shooting accuracy, but he needs the ball on his toe to create any chances, and his chances at a club like Hull will be very few and far-between. I honestly cannot think of a Premiership club where Michael would retain his hero-worship, and so I ask myself "Why doesn't he do what the greats of the past used to do, and go to a small club where he is certain to be worshipped; draw large crowds for small clubs; score lots of goals; win promotion for that club; and still be able to go for a pint with the lads after a game." Just imagine what he could do for a club like Rochdale. The average gate would zoom from below 3,000 to over 7 or 8,000, and away clubs would also benefit from increased attendances when Rochdale visited. Rochdale (in their current form) would almost certainly win the championship and gain the bonuses associated. Why not?
He did a Robinho - Moved to any club so that he could show off again, but it all went tits up!!!
Frazier Campbell is young agreed, and yes he wants to play football also agreed
but it does not seem like he wants to play his football in Hull
You also have to consider Phil Browns considerable ego and the kudos he perceives he will get out of persuading a once super star to come to Hull
Owen most probably has not a clue as to what part of GB Hull is in !!!
I also agree with you that Owen is a big big gamble exept on a pay per play deal with goal scoring bonuses to make up the bulk of his wage
Dont do it Phil, spend your money on a player who wants more than just to try and resurect his England chances. He has no loyalty what so ever. This guy is past his sell by date, and will happily sit on your bench with a minor injury.I do have hard feelings towards Owen,i do not think he was comitted to the cause at Newcastle,i am sure his plan was to come back to the Premier league (when we were in it ) with any club and then move to one of the top clubs within a year or so.The only thing which stopped him was his injuries and the fact he was past it and could not accept it.I am a Newcastle fan but the Wife is Hull mad,for sure i want Hull to do well and this boy is not going to help one bit. Frazier Campbell would be the best buy ,he is young and wants to play football.
