Premier League - English Pato bid rejected

Eurosport - Fri, 26 Jun 09:37:00 2009

Milan have turned down what vice-president Adriano Galliani has described as a "monster offer" from an English club for Brazil ace Alexandre Pato.

FOOTBALL 2008/09 Serie A Milan Pato - 0

The Brazil international has been heavily linked with Chelsea, who are now managed by former Rossoneri boss Carlo Ancelotti, a known admirer of the 19-year-old striker.

Pato had confirmed his wish to stay at the San Siro and now Galliani is ready to tie the youngster to the club with the offer of a longer deal.

"Pato will get a contract extension," Galliani told the club's official website. "I am absolutely delighted by Pato's comments.

"We have always spoken to Pato and the comments that arrive from other continents usually are mistaken. There were no doubts and there are no doubts regarding his future.

"The only offer that has arrived to our club was a monster offer from England for Alexandre Pato.

"I continue to believe that there isn't a player in the world that is as strong as him of his age.

"In any case, no one should worry because he is under contract through June 2012."

Pato has become one of the continent's hottest properties after finishing last season as second top scorer in Serie A with 15 goals in 36 appearances.

  1. Ronan you have no idea what you are talking about. A player like cesc starting at Arsenal is a lot better than him sitting on the bench. Do you really think Real is that good? Perez is back to his old ways, but there's no guarantee of success for Real. English teams have dominated international football the past few years and if Barca lost in the CL this year, nothing would be different. Real, Barca and sevilla are the only teams that can compete with the big 4 along with Everton and Aston Villa.

Oh and where is cesc from Ronan? He's from Cataluna which is definitely an area of Real Madrid lovers. And Cesc's position is not in danger. He is starting about 50% of the games for Spain right now and will continue to do so.

  3. Ronan, you're quite wrong my friend. It's the reverse actually. Being a benchwarmer at Real Madrid will mostly certainly keep you OUT of your national side. Playing and most importantly PERFORMING on the first team of a good is crucial. Cesc would be making a huge mistake if he left Arsenal for Real Madrid (look at Hleb etc). With Arsenal, he'll start every game as long he's fit. With Real Madrid, not so sure. I see the seduction of going to your home country playing for Real Madrid. But in the end, what matters most to a player is playing tim no matter where it is (eg Tevez to Man City, and Tevez WILL be on the Argentina team)

  4. I also think it was ManU who made the offer. Although it makes intuitive since, I seriously doubt that Ancelotti had enough power at Chelsea this soon to be throwing that kind of money around for a player. ManU should (and probably will) keep their money and bring Frederico Macheda on the other talented young players into the fold. They've already got experience in Rooney, Ferd, and Berbatov to lead them.

  5. ITS A WORLD CUP YEAR DUMMIES!
Every player is making a decision based upon profile to the home nation coach. A benchwarmer in Real Madrid will definitely get picked over a first team select in 85% of Prem league teams. Tevez wants first team football to ensure selection. Cesc Fabregas is worried about his home nation profile. Cmon folks, what would you do?

  8. I think Seb Plater was right when he suggested to apply 5+1 plan because it restricts the over prices and makes every club focus on local players. labor laws and shenghen regulations mustn't be applied to football in order to feel that it is a pure game albeit 50%.

  11. I have a slight inkling that it was ManU rather than anyone else although most people think it was Chelsea. ManU are the English team with money to spend and we need someone who will score goals i.e. Pato.
Prsonally, id prefer it if ManU meet the £52,000,000 asking prce for Sergio Aguero

  13. Has football become a dirty money laundering game these days or am I just cynical? F*ck the owners and their over priced players. I'd rather see the coal miner from next door running out for the local team and getting a red card for a manly tackle; which the tackled player manly got up from; rather than these overpaid primma donnas that are a cancer in the modern game.

Incidentally I agree with the Miss Hilton... Flowers in your hair = Sissy, I believe was the way Eurosport reported that one.
