Blackburn Rovers have completed the signing of Olympique Marseille defender Gael Givet for an undisclosed fee.
The 27-year-old former France international has signed a four-year deal at Ewood Park having spent the second half of last season on loan from Marseille.
His versatility at being able to play at left-back and centre-half helped him settle very quickly into English football and Blackburn manager Sam Allardyce, who brought in the Frenchman in January, had no hesitation in offering him a permanent deal.
"It is a critical signing. Gael made a massive impact last season while on loan here and I think he can get even better," said the Rovers boss.
"A player coming from abroad would usually need a fair amount of time to adjust to the different culture, the different climate and the different way of doing things.
"This lad took about two weeks to find his feet. It isn't often that a player makes such a massive contribution from day one, particularly in January."

Burgess the real honours is we still owned by local(owner who born & grow up in blackburn) compared to the give their soul to outsider. For what keep asking team to win while the fact is we’re losing the right & ownership to other? So do you still call it pride my friends?
Just compared major honours and i think its 12-12 , but decided to give the edge to Rovers because we won the most recent . Please take note , its MAJOR HONOURS and not 2nd and 3rd division titles, which im sure you would agree shouldnt really count.
Ive just stopped laughing . You have a great sense of humour. These words coming from a City fan, i wouldnt be so cruel as to call you the laughing stock of the Prem. The business with Kaka , who incidently wouldnt sign for City at 110 mil, yet not too many months later signs for Madrid for 70 mil to help Milans financial problems . Going on achievements alone , which is all you can judge a team by , i think you will find Rovers are just a bit more successful. N ow if you want to go by attendences then i concede , but that just shows how badly your team is run , and i just keep comming back to Kaka. I hope Roque fits in somewhere with Bellamy,Robinho,Tevez , doesnt add up to me and feel that it is in other areas you need to strengthen, i.e defence . Hughes' teams always concede goals. I have a feeling he might come for Warnock or even Samba, they might not be the answer.
mike your a @#$% ha ha glory hunting little peenarse!
Recently, I discovered a hot place -- W ealthyFinder Co- m- -- where many sexy singles who like sports and- chatting- there. I'm an open minded girl from UK, I- also like- discuss sports and love with handsome guys- on it.
Ok , youve obviously used science to come to the "only a Championship team at best" theory . On attendences you are probably right , but on facts and figures how can you say a team that finishes 15 in prem should be championship . Robinson (international),Emerton(international),Nelson(internati onal),Samba (international),Warnock (international),Pederson(international),Reid(internatio nal),Diouf(international),Grella(international),Mcarthe y(international),Roberts (underated) thats some team ,certainly worthy of Prem. Come on Mike tell us your team .
burgess the truth hurts doesnt it. Youre not a premier team, end of.. Youre a championship at best.
dont even start with the argument of followers.. when you won the title you didnt even fill the stadium.
as i said before championship team at best. lousy manager and even worse players.. not forgetting the sheep shaggers that follow them
Now mike , weve actually got the best supported team in the Prem if you go by average attendance to population of Blackburn. So i fear your stupidty is shinning through again . As for the old chestnut that we bought the Prem , i really dont think you can say that, every team that has won the Prem has spent money and a lot more than Rovers did . Back in 94-95 all the usual suspects had teams that were seen as worth more than Blackburn. Look forward to your next words of wisdom . Mind you im a bit worried , your second comment made more sense than the first.
anyway sheepos speak later baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
yep I remember several years ago you BOUGHT the premier league title and what happened HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA now youve got no fan base worth anything and your team is bobbins... lets face it nobody decent wants to go there.. good championship team but thats it
just realised i spelt paid wrong on my last comment, well said duke as for mike blackburn is run purely on money generated and we have no debts unlike almost every other prem club so we cant go spend stupid money only supposedly great players who usually flop.but we can spend it on players like givet who were very impressive towards the end of the season good buy me thinks.
Mike what an intelligent sort of guy you are . You are obviously new to football supporting . This is the way football works . I would also like to know who you support . Even the biggest team in the world (Man U, alledgedly) have just had to sell their best player (Ronaldo ) , it was in the news a couple of weeks ago , probably before you joined football supporting . Blackburn are one of only 4 teams to have won the Prem . Maybe you are a southern Liverpool or Man U fan . So your arguement is flawed if you are a United fan , and most of my Northern Liverpool fan mates would rather have won the prem than the Champs League, which does seem beyond them. As for Givet , he looked good last season . Im a bit sad we let Derbyshire go , but happy to go with what Sam thinks .
You can say Blackburn @#$% & lost the best player but remember their far still pride because the club still owned by local people.
I feel weird about the other because they still proud even they lost the club to foreigner.
At least at Blackburn the British still in charge & have the power.
Funny right…
and who do you support mike probably a glory supporter go and comment on which over payed players your clubs buying.
who ffing cares blackburn are cra p and you lose all your best players.......now get out and buy a pint of mild you sad sheep shaggers
nice player are coming, couple to come ;)
cmon cardozo and zidan, we're counting on you...
Good buy for Rovers... :)
