Klaas Jan Huntelaar is the latest big-name striker to be linked with a move to Manchester United.
Given the number of big-money signings at Real Madrid this summer, it would be no surprise if Huntelaar found himself surplus to requirements at the Bernabeu Stadium.
And, as any attempt to lure Karim Benzema to Old Trafford looks fraught with difficulty, it is not a shock either that it has been suggested a move for Huntelaar by Sir Alex Ferguson is on the cards.
Although he is a key part of the Dutch side that became the first European team to qualify for the World Cup Finals earlier this month, Huntelaar has not appeared to settle in Spain since joining Real in January this year.
The 25-year-old former Ajax star scored eight goals in 20 appearances for his new club. However, he was omitted from their Champions League squad in favour of Lassana Diarra and an approach from Ferguson may well pay off.
Not that United - about to pocket £80 million from Real for the sale of Cristiano Ronaldo - are exactly short of possibilities in the attacking department.
Apart from Benzema, who would cost around £30m if he could be prized away from Lyon, Atletico Madrid's Argentina front-man Sergio Aguero appears to feature on United's radar, even though the team-mate of former Old Trafford striker Diego Forlan would cost at least £10m more.

I think huntelaar is a good player..good goal scorer..but he still needed a winger to pass him the ball to score goal..Surplus player in real like Robben is good bargain buy i think...Valencia is good as well fast, powerfull..benzema and aguero is destined to be world class player if they join man u...Ashley young also a good winger..go for him ...Hurry up Man u..Don't let other rival clubs snatching them..
why buy strikers when its the midfield thats lacking? last year it was berbatov who led in assists, assuming you bench him or get rid of him in order to accomodate a new striker, along with wayne rooney up front, who will set up the offense?
iif i were saf i will get micheal owen free, AJ robben who is surplur at real.. Hunatlerr is also a good buy and try to get as many real players who is surplus and use the money to pay off debts
I think Man U should sign a Defender to the right side because i don´t belive that Fergie will put Gary Neville and Rafael is to young. Man U have a lot of good atackers and midffilders like Rooney, Berbatov, Anderson, Carrick ...
And now wirh the sell of Ronaldo, Man U have a lot of money to spent.
Elaphanta
Yes but ylou forgettin people like messi are in that league to dumass
i dont think benzema will go to united unfortunately...huntelaar would be a good signing i think... need to get valencia as well though
if he is not good enough for real madrid then he is not good enough for man utd. get benzema and a winger, sell berb and get aguero, united will again be the team to beat
need midfielders more than strikers
ROFL he can go to United for all I care hes a @#$% striker he scores 8 goals in 20 games in a league where diego forlan, a man who couldnt make a name for himself at united is top scorer. Hes no threat to any of the top teams, he doesn't have the quality.
he would be good up front with wayne rooney and a very good sighning for us
To:WAYNE. But "whitepride" can spell better than you!
HEY WHITE PRIDE YOU COPYCAT THATS WHAT I WROTE YOU THIFE GET YOUR OWN STUFF TO WRITE
NOB!!
Huntelaar might well be a carbon copy of his compatriot who fell out with the gaffer....if United want to replace Ronaldo then there really is no alternative than to pay what is needed to get Douglas Costa - who is destined to be the next Brazilian with the world at his feet.....and if the Gaffer holds no faith in the forwards at the club why not look at another brilliant Brazillian in Nilmar?? Whoever joins the club will need time to adjust....please let's hope that the new arrivals are sooner rather than later!
mark the scouse tit keep off the man utd pages and keep your dirty finger pickin nose out of the transfer market of Manchester united stick to your own pages on loserpool they will never win the premier league so stop being jealous of man utd the best and biggest football club in England
GLOOOOOORY GLOOOOOORY MAN UTD
PREMIER LEAGUE CHAMPIONS OF ENGLAND FOR THE 11 TIME
LOSERPOOL PREMIER LEAGUE TITES NIL ZERO ZILCH HAHAHAHA
Both Diarra and Huntelaar had played in the Uefa cup so only one could be chosen so Real figured they needed more midfield options than striking ones (V Nistlerooy and Raul were both firing on all cylinders at the time) for the second phase of the Champions League. To say he was unsettled when he has an almost 2 games to 1 goal ratio is a bit much. I would love to see him at united but this is just jumping at straws am afraid.
i hope the current England tax policy will not make all the great footballers reject to come to EPL.
Guys.. let's be frank here.. I'm a United fans and I only insult Liverpool when the title race/ the season is on.. now, it's a peace time.. why can't you guys stay down and don't insult United.. just for the holiday session.. insult something like Unreal Madrid, Parcalona.. we're in the same country.. Man U and Liverpool are just rival.. rival means that when the race is on.. when the race is off, they're just cool.. what your say? Deal?
Take me home, United road !
TYPICAL LIVERFOOLS SCOUSE JOBLESS @#$%S AT IT AGAIN, PURE JEALOUSY COS THIS COMING SEASON IS GONNA SEE AN END TO THEIR REIGN OF 18 TITLES, AS SOON IT WILL BE UNITED 19 BIG ONES,LOL
YOU'LL ALWAYS WALK ALONE, COS UR SCUM SCUM SCUM
