Eurosport-Yahoo! blogger Simon Reed believes people are entitled to get excited about Andy Murray, because he has a genuine chance of winning the tournament.
Murray's service was unbelievable against Ernests Gulbis, and he reduced his unforced errors to an absolute minimum.
It was a terrific performance from the Brit, but at the same time, I don't think Gulbis was ever going to threaten him significantly.
I maintain that the Latvian has not got the hunger to challenge the likes of Murray, and he often needs a good shake up to get going.
Despite that, Gulbis is still a good player and the number three seed had to raise his level from the first round in order to beat him.
Gulbis is a work in progress and it may well never be finished: he has a lot of talent, but he should ask himself some serious questions now.
He is 20-years-old and does not seem to be going anywhere; that would be a real waste of talent.
I know Lleyton Hewitt believes he is playing his best since 2005, but I don't believe he has a real chance of challenging at the business end of the tournament.
It was a terrific performance from the Australian in his victory over the fifth seed, Juan Martin Del Potro: it was like rolling back the years.
Hewitt has opened up that half of the draw considerably now, and it is looking much better for Andy Roddick and Murray.
I thought Del Potro could go through to the semi-finals, but he simply did not play well enough against Hewitt, and looked a shadow of himself.
Tomas Berdych was exceptional today against Paul-Henri Mathieu, and he is a very dangerous floater in that quarter of the draw after his victory.
Fernando Gonzalez was terrific today, and if he continues to play as he did against Leonardo Mayer, he could beat anyone.
The big question remains with the Chilean 10th seed: will his knee hold up?
He looked to be unrestricted in his movements against the Argentine, but the issues with his knee creep back in if he plays a five-setter.
The women's event has been pretty low-key, with the exception of Maria Sharapova being knocked out.
I do not think that any of the victories today by the top players were particularly significant to be honest.
Venus Williams put in a good performance in beating Kateryna Bondarenko of Ukraine, and she looks good despite the obvious wear-and-tear in her legs.
For me, Serena Williams has played by far the best tennis in the women's tournament so far, and she is certainly the favourite in my book.
It would be a super story if Caroline Wozniacki went all the way, and she played well in beating Maria Kirilenko, but I think the quarter finals will probably be as far as the ninth seed will go.
Looking ahead to tomorrow, I think Philipp Kohlschreiber could push Roger Federer.
The German is a match for anyone on his day, and it is sure to be a very attractive match, first up on Centre Court.
If Kohlschreiber plays at his best it could be very tight, but I do not see Federer losing the match.
It will be a very tough match for Jo-Wilfried Tsonga against Ivo Karlovic, and I could see that match potentially going the distance.
I have also got my eye on Robin Soderling, who represents a threat to Federer, and I see the Swede beating Nicolas Almagro of Spain.
Serena Williams will stomp all over Roberta Vinci of Italy on Court two, just as she did against Jarmila Groth on Wednesday.
It is onwards and upwards for Victoria Azarenka, and although I think it will be a good match against Sorana Cirstea, I think the eighth seed will be too strong for the Romanian.

haggis boys do one... I am sick of hearing about this scoth clunt..
kilt boy needs to take up a new sport, sheep shagging
No chance for Murray to win Wimbledon. He don't have a mentality of a big player. Roddick will blow him in semi finals, if no one else don't do it before that...

You really are a grade 1 "clunt" as you so put it. What a misery it must be for you, watching a Scotsman become the most likely British Wimbledon winner since your pathetic little Tiger Timmy. You must have been so depressed watching Murray's wonderful performance yesterday, it certainly sounds like it.
Any chance you might take your utter drivel off these boards and let the adults talk amongst themselves? There are plenty other things for a spotty, hairy handed, unsexed adolescent teenager like yourself to be getting up to online ;)
Cheery bye

With regard to the post about Andy Murray's mum "effin and blindin" - I have never seen this before in all the matches I have watched. Just because she comes from Scotland does not mean that she is going to act inappropriately !! When ever she is interveiwed she comes across as very calm and collecte, well spoken and knowledgable about the sport. Surely you can't have a go at her for being rightly proud of her son's talent and achievements.
What will be if Murray does not fulfill dreams of UK at Wimbledon, does anybody thinks about that there. Britain got a talent (read champ) but why they issue so exaggerated advertising and rooting which is quite similar to American wrestling campaign. I would not like to be in Murray's shoes at all.
The section of the draw with Gonzo, Ferrero, Hanescu and Simon is almost identical to RG, where Hanescu destroyed Simon only to be demolished by Gonzalez. On grass, Simon should do better agaist Hanescu IMO. Caught the tail end of Ferrero beating Youzny and he looked in good shape. He got to the semis at Queens so maybe he can give Gonzo a thing or two to think about. Hewitt showed yesterday what in-form ex-No.1s are capable of. JC is not as good as Lleyton on grass but he's no slouch either. As the saying goes in Spanish, "quien tuvo, retuvo" (when you got it, you got it... very free translation but...more or less!)
MURRAY WILL WIN A SLAM . . . .
HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA . . .
He is a Scot and he lets everyone know it, so why the English are cheering is beyond me.

Simon Reed is an idiot. Fueling the British public's overexcited egos about their average sport stars is funny but not fair. British people cannot cope with this situation. Their brains immediate switch to a world sporting domination fantasy where all British sports people are invincible and will always win. Every World cup since 66, Every European Championship and every Wimbledon (with that @#$% Henman - remember him !!). The list goes on and on and on. Let's build ourselves up for a kick in the arse.
When will UK people lean. The last time they did this with Murray he got his arse kicked in Australia. Murray will not win Wimbledon, and if he wins it once in the next 10 years I would be amazed. Wait until he is in the final and serving for the match - then get excited. I am going to fall off my bar stool when Murray gets stuffed. If he does win at least he will have enough money to get a proper haircut.
lol murry the brit lol wait till he looses and he will be murry the scot again lol
no true English people will ever get excited over this muppet ! shun him !

excellent post mucky fingers excellent and that is the way it here in britain for the big big majority.
The British media is putting lot of pressure on Murry. Let this young man enjoy his game. No dought, he is a potential candidate to win wimbledon. But, let him play his game and enjoy, after all he is only 22. It is not his fault that no englishmen has won wimbleon since 1936
