Huntelaar linked to United

Fri, 26 Jun 08:01:24 2009

Klaas Jan Huntelaar is the latest big-name striker to be linked with a move to Manchester United.

Given the number of big-money signings at Real Madrid this summer, it would be no surprise if Huntelaar found himself surplus to requirements at the Bernabeu Stadium.

And, as any attempt to lure Karim Benzema to Old Trafford looks fraught with difficulty, it is not a shock either that it has been suggested a move for Huntelaar by Sir Alex Ferguson is on the cards.

Although he is a key part of the Dutch side that became the first European team to qualify for the World Cup Finals earlier this month, Huntelaar has not appeared to settle in Spain since joining Real in January this year.

The 25-year-old former Ajax star scored eight goals in 20 appearances for his new club. However, he was omitted from their Champions League squad in favour of Lassana Diarra and an approach from Ferguson may well pay off.

Not that United - about to pocket £80million from Real for the sale of Cristiano Ronaldo - are exactly short of possibilities in the attacking department.

Apart from Benzema, who would cost around £30million if he could be prized away from Lyon, Atletico Madrid's Argentina front-man Sergio Aguero appears to feature on United's radar, even though the team-mate of former Old Trafford striker Diego Forlan would cost at least £10million more.

  4. I agree with the comment about Huntelaar, we also could pick up Wesley Sneijder, he is a great free kick taker and we will be in need of one next season.
We will be okay with Macheda who will become stronger and a holding player a bit like Ruud.
Go Dutch Alex and you will have no problems with the "Ronaldo - Beckham" hype

  6. in reply to paul comment10.. i fully agree.. the young guns need to be brought in and fill the tevez gap.. and we can manage without any signings.. even though another winger would be nice but not a 40mil one.. no where near.. 15mil -18mil tops in todays market.. develop one.. im not so sure nani is good enough.

  7. John Rice is a sad muppet, shame on you, a man is dead. On a football note: Man Utd don't need to buy anyone, they already have plenty of options. I would think Sir Alex is giving serious thought to playing Wellbeck and Macheda in many more games this year.

  9. Manu just needs to replace Ronaldo...not with another Ronaldo of course, as they are not that many out there. We just need options. Nani can do for niow, but he needs a backup or he will back up a new signing. Lets keep our 80m now. Fighting for a player will only letter the selling club mug us...just because they know we have the money, not that they are selling us a very good player.
Sir Alex should relax and bank the money, clubs will sell when the debts start biting.

  11. we dont need a striker.. weve got plenty of options.. we need a class winger a team player, not a established player thats not fergies style. unless ofc hes looking at a striker to play first team and bench berby but i doubt that tbh.. he loves berby and will wont a return on his transfer fee. hardley see a top player being happy sat on the bench and playing in lesser games ... decent winger is whats needed and someone who is still delevoping.
wouldnt believe paper talk anyway.. its just to sell players and it had the adverse affect of pushing transfer fee up.. so much for recession eh..

  12. I think he's a great player, who could score plenty of goals in the Premiership - snap him up Fergie!!

    From jct_robinson, on Fri 26 Jun 9:23AM
  13. Man Utd do not need to buy because they will win the premiership with ease yet again. If we do buy then it will just be an even easier stroll in the park. Once again Alex Ferguson has pulled off a master stroke and got £80 million for a player on the decline. We only sell players to Real Madrid who are past their sell-by date and the mugs at Real Madrid keep falling for it.

Papers, you'd better link Robben to MU, at least you would soothe the hearts of MU fans even if it's an utter, complete, total hoax.
