Reading director of football Nick Hammond has admitted that Kevin Doyle has "earned the right" to a move back to the Premier League this summer.
The Republic of Ireland international has attracted substantial interest from the top flight after scoring 18 times in the Championship last season and is expected to leave for a fee in the region of £6.5million.
"The interest has been followed up strongly by a number of clubs recently and now we are waiting to see what happens," Hammond told the Reading Evening Post.
"If the valuation is met then, in my opinion, he has earned the right to go where he wants.
"I can't speak for Kevin and say where he will go - he is more than capable of speaking for himself. He is a Premier League quality striker, so it is unrealistic on our part to expect him to stay.
"He is such a good professional and I would love him to stay, but my gut feeling is he will move in the next few weeks."

Michael your more than welcome to come and support a proper team as Watford will be so much better without F*ck Off Rodgers. Come on you Ornnnssss.
Why was my message invalid? I wish I could tell you what I think of your censorship, who are you morons who say what can be put on this, when I see a lot of rubbish on here that has no reason to be on a football page. Support Reading now when they need it, you were happy to support them when they were up in the Premiership, and would you stay away if they get back up into the top flight again, Michael wilkins654. Reading doesn't want supporters like you who desert them when you are needed.
As usual HAPLESS HAMMOND & his cronies will give in to bigger clubs, the royals have gone back to showing no ambition, & i've been supporting them for 35 years.....NO MORE
