Ian Sampson believes League Two sides are playing a different brand of football compared to recent years.
The Northampton coach is looking to help mastermind an immediate return to League One after the club's relegation back in May and, having observed the type of football played in the four tier, he feels the Cobblers "will need to maybe mix it up a bit" for the 2009/10 season.
"I think the style of League Two has changed slightly over the last few years and there are probably less teams now that play long ball football," he told the club's official website.
"There are still a few teams who like to play a bit more directly but there are definitely more teams that like to get the ball down and play.
"We don't want to get blinkered into thinking every game is going to be long ball because there will be teams who want to play football and we will be one of them.
"We will need someone who can produce a bit of magic on occasion, but at this level if we can work together as a team then I think we will be okay."
