Aston Villa will warm up for the new Barclays Premier League campaign by playing Fiorentina in a pre-season friendly at home on August 8.

The two-time Serie A champions are managed by Cesare Prandelli and have former Chelsea striker Adrian Mutu and France international goalkeeper Sebastien Frey in their squad.

Fiorentina have qualified for the play-offs of the Champions League next season after finishing fourth in the league.

Villa manager Martin O'Neill said: "To follow up our Peace Cup participation with a home game against real quality European opposition in Fiorentina is fantastic and ideal preparation for the start of the season.

"If it's half as good as the match against Inter Milan here two seasons ago, it will be terrific."
