Rooney: United Are World's Best

Manchester United will begin this season believing they are the best side in the world, Wayne Rooney has warned.

England striker Rooney claims last seasons domestic and European double has given Sir Alex Ferguson's men even more confidence of winning silverware.

Rooney, 22, said in The Sun: "After our success last year, there will be high expectations but we've got a good enough squad and hopefully we can emulate last season.

"Of course, winning trophies brings you confidence and we're a confident team anyway. But it's given us that bit extra and belief that we're the best in the world.

"Hopefully we can prove that again this season."

Rooney revealed he is relishing building up his match fitness on United's current tour of South Africa - and is even enjoying being tackled.

"It's nice to get tackled again - the sort of things you're used to getting during the season," he said.

"We've enjoyed it. It's good to get back, see the lads and get amongst it again. I can't wait."

    he knows that every team is going to try that much harder to beat United
    now that they've won the double,
    and he wants that challenge for himself and the whole team,
    to try and improve another notch from last year,
    and keep winning,
    both the 4-0 romps as well as the tough-tackling 1-0 nail-biters.

  2. Why do people "hate" teams like United, or Chelsea? Is it jealousy or just biterness? As a United fan I admit it must take something big for a supporter to actually hate another team for their success.

  3. I'm a Spurs fan, whilst i hate Utd for their obvious double standards, you can't but help admire the football they play.

    Ar5ena1 play good football too, but don't get the end profit that Utd have got in recent years.

    EPL and CL winners, says alot. Even if by the slightest of margins. Come the start of the season, everyone will aspire to knock Utd of their perch, simple as.

Michelle, I think thats what Rooney means...they have the league and champions league under there belts, that gives them the belief they can do it, and therefore can be consistant...maybe your referring to your own team when it comes to not being consistant....lol and it doesn't matter if john terry slipped or not...the fact is...the trophy is at old trafford and not stampford bridge...the slip is irrelevant...the confidence is all with man united and the rest are chasing man united...the leagues dont lie both EPL and CL and the trophies in the old trafford cabinet dont lie eithier...man u maybe not the best team in the world but they are in europe...fact!!!!

I think Mr. Shrek sorry Mr. Rooney means they were the best last season lets see if they can repeat it and retain the champions league which I might add they only won by a freak slip up by John Terry. United were not that convincing for me last season they only just won what they did I dont think they will do it again. To be the best you need to be consistant.

So fella's, while your teams preparing for the new season, don't waste time, get down the high street and look for a new handbag to bash each other over the head with on match day!!
    P.S. You can get some good bargains on bra's (for your man boobs), knicks (because you love to try them on) and high heels (stilletos do as much damage as a knife) in the summer sales....!

  13. was there any doubt about that ( who the best are in the world)? Last season was a pointer. anyway the season begins in under three weeks and we can't wait and see the competition. Chelsea are aging as Fergie truly pointed out, Liverpool are perenial underachievers but i won't discount them. Arsenal are starting a fresh especially in the midfield but are always up there. Liverpool and Chelsea are anyway the only threat to uniteds dominance in England. In Europe Inter probably or Real.
