Manchester United are expected to make Carlos Tevez a permanent signing before the end of the year.
The Barclays Premier League champions are believed to be close to agreeing a deal with Tevez's owners - sports investment firm MSI - which will turn his current two-year loan deal into a permanent move.
United chief executive David Gill earlier this week admitted: "We have spoken to Carlos and see him as part of our long-term squad.
"We have been pleased with his first season. He is a good age - a great player and well liked within the team.
"We know what we have to do and what we have to pay. The only issue is that we would have to sort out a long-term contract for him.
"But it's not a problem - we can do it in September, October, November or December."
Without a new contract, the 24-year-old Argentina striker would be free to talk to other clubs in January.
Various newspapers on Saturday claim that a British record transfer fee of between £32million and £35million to make the Argentinian's current loan agreement permanent.

Message to "wardster31 & MR. JANG" I guess that is why Sir Alex, Mr Gill and the Glazers are in control of Utd and not the likes of you guys because it is plain to see that you two know nothing; my advice would be that you go back to your box, close the lid and stop wasting time with un educated opinions.
Tevez is "World Class"; he is the first name on the Argentinian team and Man Utd; £35million is an investment over the next 5 to 8 years, during which time he will score plenty of goalds and create goals that will help Utd continue to win trophies which in turn will continue the huge profits that Utd generate; that is why they will pay the asking price!
I think, this price is correct! Carlos is better of Berbatov, C.Ronaldo, Etto, Lampard, Torres and Etc. Tevez & Rooney is best tandem in the world. Wayne & Carlos is playing minor rolle in late championship but of C Ronaldo.
When Ronaldo go to Real Madrid, Carlos & Wayne is show his true face. this is true.
I also agree with Wardster31, I'm very surprised to hearing it. I don't think Carlos Tevez's talent is worth of 35 millions despise of his scores for M.U. Of course, he still is young but the way he play is not convincing and not worth of 35 millions pound (unbelievable). One day in the near future, M.U will be sell him to recollect their money. Because with 35 millions pound. M.U can buy better player.
Tevez worth upto 35 million, don't make me laugh. If Man utd have paid that for him they have more money than sense as he isn't worth 10 million. Sorry United fans but you have been well ripped off.
