Venezuelan striker Daniel Arismendi says he has not held talks with Wigan, but is aware of interest from England.
The Latics have been linked with a bid to sign Arismendi, who currently plays for Union Atletico Maracaibo in his homeland.
He has an impressive goals-to-games ratio at international level and is hoping to secure a move to a more high-profile league.
He confirmed there has been contract from an English club, although Arismendi appears inclined to wait until January before joining a new team.
"I have been called from England," Arismendi told La Vinotinto.com. "They did it to ask me how I am doing in the Venezuelan domestic league and what my situation will be in December.
"They can offer a contract for several years, but I don't know who the team is."
Arismendi admits he has spoken to agent Luis Aparicio regarding a move, but is waiting for contact from the interested club.
He added: "I have only spoken with him (Aparicio). I haven't spoken with anyone of Wigan or other teams.
"I would like to be called by a coach because that would make me certain that I will have the chance to play.
"I have also been called from Mexico to ask me if I am interested in going back there, but I haven't been told the name of the team.
"My transfer belongs to Union Maracaibo and I think that I would be better to wait until December because I don't think that they want to cancel my contract at this moment."
