England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff will be on crutches for a minimum of six weeks after undergoing knee surgery.
Double Ashes-winning hero Flintoff, 31, underwent a routine arthroscopy and micro-fracture to two small areas in his right knee in London.
The recovery from the operation, carried out by surgeon Andy Williams, is expected to be a lengthy period.
An England and Wales Cricket Board statement read: "The recovery will require him to be non weight-bearing for the first six to eight weeks post surgery.
"At the end of this six-to-eight-week period, the knee will be reviewed by his surgeon and the timescale for ongoing rehabilitation further determined."

I would like to wish Freddie well and pray to god he does not end up like myself with 2 very painful arthritic knees
whilst i know he can get better surgeons than myself there is nothing they can do except replace the knee joints
And my injuries were caused through sport I am no where near as big and beefy as Freddie at my best i weighed in at 8 stone and my knees give out carrying that weight!!
I am 43 and on the list for a double knee replacement even after they argued i was to young !! my answer was that is stupid i need to be able to work !!
they the NHS seem to think its better to sit and home getting benefits I dont so stuffed with painkillers i drag myself to work
cook gets a lot of stick, but I think he can go away, like strauss did not so long ago, and get his technique in order. its silly to drop someone who is the future, has scored 9 tons and 20 half tons, and has the mental strength to go a long, long way. some people simply have no concept of what test cricket is about.
THE KING HAS GONE LONG LIVE THE NEW KING. Flintoff has been a good talisman for the game and a genuine lad. However the hype around him is unjustified. He bowled well at lords and batted well at edgbaston but the solid peformers were strauss, broad and swann. anderson also played his part. trott has done ok and has no doubt booked his ticket to south africa. Ihave to agree with the comments about collingwood,he did drop a sitter and the other two he would have probably caught one earlier in his carreer. i would bring back bopara and bat him at no 5 trott to no 3 pieterson at 4. strauss denley trott pieterson bopara prior broad swann rashid anderson onions. cook tom smith bresnan foster to make up the rest of the party.
Let us get things into perspective before further gloss is painted on what was a deserved victory. It is apparent that Alistair Cook is incapable of addressing his poor batting technique and it is not surprising the BBC Ashes website gave him the lowest rating out of all the players. It is time for him to be dropped. Johnathon Trott looked the part in his second innings so calm with the ability to play he the right strokes and direct the ball into the gaps. Unfortunately for his colleague Ian Bell the door is now closing fast for South Africa as it is for Collingwood. His two dropped catches might just convince the selectors that he is no longer up to the job. But then agian the selectors may be still wearing their rose tinted spectacles.
Andrew Strauss and Andy Flower must act immediately in ensuring Stuart Broad does not get caught up in the rush for commercial deals and endorsements that are likely to come his way. He can be the new Flintoff but there is always the chance that commercial deals could be a distraction for Broad as it has happened to Pieterson and Flintoff.
There is no way Andrew Flintoff should be given a Knighthood just for that run out on Ponting. So just drop this subject once and for all and look forward to South Africa where England will face their sternest. The South Africans will be baying for their ex-pats blood but Strauss will be up to the challenge

"A further update on the outcome of the operation and the likely timescale for rehabilitation will be released in due course,"
Where does it say he'll be out for 9 months in that? You guys are amateurs and trying to sensationalise things, so much so that they are just lies!

I don't know? whether i should go to see him. he ever said to me that? all girls on that site ~~ sug ar match maker, com~~ are? seeking fun.. why am not I??????????????????????
About time the selectors were honest with Rob Key and tell him whatever you do, no matter how successful you are you will not get a game for England so it is probably best you don't play for the Lions.
With his record for Essex this year seems odd to me to leave Cook out of 20Twenty and the 1 day squad.
Trott looks the business. i want to see what he can do in the one day stuff as he looked very accomplished in his second innings at the Oval. Oh, and I'd add, "buwhahaha - we won the ashes!!! Nicely done Strauss and Co.!!
