Serie A - Baptista in Inter talks

Roma striker Julio Baptista is in talks over a move to Internazionale, according to the Brazilian's agent.

The versatile attacking midfielder has found himself out of favour with Giallirossi boss Luciano Spalletti.

The 27-year-old was left out of the Roma squad for their opening day 3-2 defeat at Genoa, and agent Herminio Menendez claims talks of a move to the Serie A champions are in progress.

"We are talking to Inter for his transfer," Menendez said. "He could join them on a permanent transfer.

"As far as I know, Baptista has not spoken to Roma. The negotiations must be completed soon because on Monday the transfer window ends."

Baptista has failed to hold down a first team place at any of his clubs in recent years. Following an eye-catching two seasons in which he scored 38 goals for Sevilla in just 63 league matches, Real Madrid paid £17 million for him in 2005.

However, he failed to impress at the Bernabeu, and spent an unsuccessful year on loan at Premier League side Arsenal before being sold to Roma last summer.
