This week's fight chat (Potential ratings are out of five stars...):
SIGNED, SEALED AND DELIVERED (ALMOST)
Frankie Edgar has scotched last week's prediction that he could be a likely next opponent for Roger Huerta after signing a deal to take on on former TUF cast member Matt Wiman.
Edgar's camp have revealed bout agreements have been signed for the fight to be a featured bout for "UFC Fight for the Troops" event at Fort Bragg in North Carolina on December 10.
Potential: *****
Meanwhile, War Machine (previously known as Jon Koppenhaver before he legally changed his name) might not have considered UFC newcomer Brandon Wolff a good enough opponent, but TUF 6 alumnus Ben Saunders does. The pair are finalising a welterweight bout to appear on the Fight for the Troops card.
Potential: ****
The UFC have quickly moved to find a replacement after highly-touted heavyweight prospect Cain Velazquez pulled out of a fight against newly-signed Mustapha Al-Turk - and it doesn't get any easier for the former Cage Rage champion Al-Turk.
New Wolfslair fighter Cheick Kongo is the man to step up to the plate, with agreements being signed for the two to meet on the UFC 92 main card on Decemer 27 in Las Vegas.
Potential: ****
POSSIBLES, PROBABLES AND PLAUSIBLES
Our sources at our Yahoo! sister site in the US inform us that Quinton "Rampage" Jackson (pictured) and Wanderlei Silva will almost definitely meet, and it will probably be in Las Vegas at UFC 93 on January 31, Super Bowl weekend.
It would be the third meeting between Silva and Jackson following the Brazilian's two victories in PRIDE in 2003 and 2004.
Potential: ****
Meanwhile, UFC co-founder Lorenzo Fertitta has confirmed that the organisation will hold an event in Manila in May next year. "It"s almost 100 percent sure that we"ll be bringing the UFC to Manila in summer," said Fertitta. "We love the fans here and we intend to make it big, with as many stars as possible."
OUT ON A LIMB
Anderson Silva"s manager has quashed rumours that the Brazilian is about to quit the sport, insisting "The Spider" still has a massive SIX fights left on his UFC contract. Assuming Silva defends his 185lb belt against Patrick Cote at UFC 90, fans can expect to see him press ahead at light-heavyweight.
Rumoured foes: Chuck Liddell (Potential: ***); Wanderlei Silva (Potential: **); Lyoto Machida (Potential: ***).
Speaking of Silva, Georges St Pierre told "Inside MMA" that he believes Cote can pull off the upset: "He's training really hard, and even though he's the underdog, I truly believe he can beat Anderson Silva."
