Fotheringham joins United until 2010

Dundee United have completed the signing of former Celtic and Norwich midfielder Mark Fotheringham on a short-term contract.

The 25-year-old had been a free agent since leaving the Canaries in February and will join Anorthosis Famagusta in Cyprus when the transfer window opens next year.

But he has signed for his hometown club for a three-month period to get match sharpness ahead of that move.

United are waiting on Fotheringham's registration being transferred from the Football Association.

Manager Craig Levein said: "Mark is going to Cyprus in January but needs a club until then to keep him ticking over.

"He has been training with us and impressed me so he's signed until the end of the year.

"I will consider him for the St Johnstone if we can get international clearance in time."
