Cristiano Ronaldo has said he made the right decision to stay with Manchester United and expects to continue with them beyond this season.
The Portugal winger was courted by Spanish champions Real Madrid during the close season after he let slip he would like to play for them in the future, having won a Premier League and Champions League double with United.
After a meeting with United manager Alex Ferguson at the beginning of August, the 23-year-old finally ended the speculation by committing himself to staying in England for this season.
"Now I understand I have made the best decision. I am with Manchester in body and soul," Ronaldo told sports daily Marca.
"I am a Manchester player. I want to respect the club, my colleagues and the fans and don't want to talk about other teams at present. Only God knows the future. I think I will continue here next season."
Ronaldo is in the running for the 2008 Ballon d'Or and FIFA World Player of the Year after scoring 42 goals in United's double winning season last year.
He went on to reveal that he studies every game he plays in minute detail.
"Every time Manchester play, the club's television channel shows the game at midnight. I like to watch it and analyse everything I have done," he said.
"I believe this is a way to improve and smooth out errors. I want to be a better footballer and am completely dedicated to this."

Ronaldo was made by united good on him that he shows his loyalty he still has bigeer things coming for him in the future if he stays with united
At the end of the day (to use a football euphemism) it's up to Ronaldo and Manchester United where he plays. For him it's his livlihood and the opportunity of making a fortune for him and his family that will set them up forever. For United it's a business decision.
I think it's up to Ron to decide if he made the right decision – it's his life! He's a great player and I enjoy watching him at United. He seems to belong with the other great players there.. Roon, Berb, Giggs and Scholsie (when not injured or suspended!!) to name just a few.
We should remember that players and managers are not owned by fans but are professionals doing a job and should be free to take whatever is offered, within the scope of the law. I have a soft spot for Portsmouth and have enjoyed their time under Harry but he has decided to move on and I wish him well. The calls of Judas aimed at him today were shameful but reflect how, to some people, their sport is tribal and how this primitive instinct clouds any intelligent thoughts they might have. So, lets enjoy Ron while we can and, if and when he moves on, move on with him...
PREMIER AND EUROPEAN CHAMPIONS... hmmm... yes, I'd say he was at the right club.
Ronaldo, u're always the best~~
My God,,,, Chelsea why did you let it out to Liverpool for Christ sake;
From Julius
37 it is not that he is not a good player and had a fantastic year but he is a meglamaniac like his manager ( who was not like that at the start )oozes insincerity, has a sick grin on his face and is an actor acting out his fantasy. People in this country do not like him because of his antics in the World Cup. Be honest about it, if your best mate got you sent off deliberately would he really be your best mate, unless you were spineless. I have no loyalties to any team but I do love football the way it should be played- in a sporting spirit like the old days without the hatred you read here in these columns. Rooney only likes him because he helps him stay in the limelight. Wait until the same round of @#$% about Real starts again next summer and see what Rooney writes if he actually goes
Get real, he only stayed because united forced him to, he tried his best to go. He has no loyalty to anyone, only ever thinks of himself.
Enough celebration Man U fan outside there
What else do you want to hear. He got it yes Thank God for him. Man U is the Best Club, Please.
He has got what he want. do you see, it is better to stay, Yes he made the right choice.
I think that ALL football players need to play a good game and stop worring about what other people think of them. What players need to understand is they are just like anyone else no worse and no betterr/.
still the same ... I will be here next season ... and u will see ..... 8 months later: I want to go to real ....
I dont understand why most people dislike this player. He is by far the best player at the moment and staying at Manchester United will help him progress even further. I think he was overwhelmed by money in the summer which made him question a move to Real Madrid. All of a sudden he isn't scoring every game and look what happened Real Madrid aren't interested...Theres a suprise!! I think he is an amazing player to watch and he can create nothing into something amazing. He deserved the worlds best player award as last season was a brilliant season for him!
I am an invalid invalide, invalidating the validation process...suk nob.
Go on Imad A, I'm not agreeing that Arsnel ,Liverpool or Chealse r no good cuz at one point they have or will be as great as United and they still got some pretty good players.
Cheese
Fine Ronny, you made the right decision and Utd fans are happy with that. Now start playing with a bit more soul and passion i.e. Rooney kissing the badge, and we'll believe you're 100% committed. Your team needs you before we're too far behind.
ronaldo...hmmmm....overated like winker in my opinion..rooneys twice the player he is..nuff said
I think it's mostly the media. It amazes me how they continue to get mileage out of this story. Everything Calderon, Ronaldo, Ferguson etc say about it is reported as a news item. One story says he'd like to go sometime, then another he'd like to stay, then Calderon says he would like him, then no he doesn't because he wouldn't want to upset United, and so on and so on ad nauseum. And we idiots continue to lap it up! :)
Fantastic player just a shame he's not left to get on with his football..He's always gonna get linked to other clubs just people starting rumours to try unsettle the players or in the hope the club will panic and give them a bigger pay rise and new contract...Think maybe agents have something to do with this.
