Tomasz Adamek knocked out Andrew Golota in the fifth round of their heavyweight clash at the Atlas Arena in Lodz, Poland.

The 41-year-old journeyman was dominated by his 32-year-old compatriot throughout the fight, with the younger man's superior speed and power keeping him one step ahead.

Adamek (pictured) floored Golota in the first round with a right-hand shot, and downed him a second time in the fifth round with a right-left combination.

Golota staggered to his feet only to receive a series of unanswered blows to the head for his efforts, prompting the referee to step in and stop the contest.

Adamek's victory in a match-up dubbed 'fight of the century' in Poland left him exhilarated and ready for a bigger challenge.

"In a year I could fight the Klitschko brothers for the world championships," he said. "I'm not afraid of anyone."

Golota, who once fought Lennox Lewis for the world title, apologised to his fans after the fight for performing 'tragically' and admitting that his career could now be over.

"Maybe boxing is no longer my thing," he said.

  3. johnhhandley, Adamek is the best in his weight??, what weight is that??, the weight below heavy is cruiser and Haye, thats right Haye the guy you called a lesser fighter was the undisputed champ at cruiser so what the hell are you going on about??

  4. Kotelnik and Barrera are quite big-hitting opponents yet Khan took them on and won. Without looking troubled.

From The Xentertainer, on Thu 29 Oct 7:26PM
  5. Khan is not yet the real deal, Warren has matched him carefully except for one and look what happened. He has a suspect chin that why he would never fight Thaxton.

  6. Who said they'd fight each other? I said they would make the final! As for Khan, I think he IS in that league. You don't spar full-time with Manny Pacquiao for nothing. Also, he IS a World Champion, be it at Light Welterweight.

  7. X and outfielda you should go to the 'Pavlick pulls out of Williams fight' thread,me and Lance having a trip down memory lane

  8. X... you've got more chance of winning the lottery twice than seeing the two brothers fight each other. What a ridiculous comment. As for the welterweight super six, that's a little more sensible although Khan is not in that league yet.

  9. never mind that super 6 rubbish get rid of all the titles bar one and have one champ.

  10. Another meaningless alphabet Belt! Even Fraudley Harrison was a World Champion, holding the WBU Title!! Let's have a Heavyweight Super Six with Vitali Klitschko, Wladimir Klitschko, Nikolai Valuev, David Haye, Tomasz Adamek and Alexander Povetkin. The final could well be Klitschko v Klitschko. Let's find out!!! And for a Welterweight Super Six...Floyd Mayweather Jr, Miguel Cotto, Shane Mosley, Manny Pacquiao, Amir Khan and Joshua Clottey. FMJ to win.

  13. Just watched the fight on youtube and Adamek looked impressive. Golota looked like a shell of his former self (he was never that great in his prime). The problem Adamek has is size, he just looked small. I even feel that Haye would be too big for him. It would make for an exciting fight though. It would be great for boxing if these smaller guys took over the division. The last decade has been like watching a strung out walrus fight.

  14. adomek is the best in his weight in the world no doubt.if he does step up a weight he would beat the lesser fighters like haye and the like, but the klitschko brothers is another matter.Im a big adomek fan and i like the way he fights ,he dosnt have to go round mouthing off to get publicity like haye for example.I hope he stays at his weight and stays champ for a while he is a good advert for boxing.I hope golota retires he has done enough.
