Di Matteo rues lack of goals

Mon, 26 Oct 12:04:04 2009

Head coach Roberto Di Matteo is refusing to press the panic button as West Brom struggle for goals.

Saturday`s 0-0 draw at Coventry means Albion have now failed to score in four of their last six games - a drought that has coincided with a mini slump that has seen them take just five points from a possible 18.

Their recent record is somewhat alarming considering they managed 20 goals in eight unbeaten games at the start of the season - but a cool Di Matteo is not getting carried away with the problem, although he recognises it could be down to a lack of confidence among his forwards.

"We just have to keep working on it," he said. "We know we can score goals because we`ve scored quite a few in previous games but at the moment it just doesn`t seem to be going for us.

"We do create chances and quite good chances as well, we went one-on-one with the goalkeeper a few times (at Coventry) and you`ve got to take them."

He added: "It might be a confidence thing, we`ll try to work on that as well. At the moment we just don`t seem able to score."

  1. A blind man on a flying horse can see that we lose our shape after 10 minutes on the pitch, this shows a lack of dicipline whatever RDM and the coaching staff are trying on the traning ground the players are not taking it on board, those who ar'nt get rid, I think we have a lot of dead WOOD, this team have no chance of promotion half way looks like where we shall end up, that might be a blessing in disguise!we could also have a new manager by then!this is not Chelsea or MK Dons? the manager has lost his way and it shows in the team every Sat.

  4. As for Cox we either give him a run or get him out on loan...Reid is not for this club...Moore im afraid if this fool was made of chocolate, he would eat himself what an idiot,..Bednar tries to hard..Wood a 17yr old kid has im sure bags of ability but asking him to put us in the Prem....no-way use him for last 20mins after Roman has ran his guts out.....Miller wait and see..thats all we can do....We need a goalscorer ASAP
....also we still have Brunt and Morrison to come back...someone should also have a word with Mattox cos matey you also flatter to decieve instead of playing as a winger do what you were bought to do Defend....RDM dont `burn`out Dorrans and Mulumba...and put your arm around Koren he looks lost at present get him back in midfield not on the wing...Put Olson and Jara back as our centre halves that was a great move cos Jara looked way out of it on Saturday....act now Roberto.we need he cutting edge back..

  5. I've said it before on here many times, Phillips has not been adequately replaced. The blame for this must lie
with our Chairman. This has been going on for two years and is getting boring.

  6. Whether wood is young and learning or not you cannot miss the chances that lad has week in week out, his only goal has been a screamer yet the bread and butter chances he is not putting away. Again coventry on Sat he is sent through one-on-one, now whatever your age, if you are a striker your forte should be finishing one-on-ones, Wood however never looked likely to score, touch, distribution, and awareness I can forgive if he doesn't have these due to his age, basic finishing skills, thats simply being a bad finisher. You mention Moore but last season he had ONE chance against Spurs (One-on-One) and finished it easily. I admit he is having a terrible run but what else can we do?

RDM has serious problems, Bednar never shuts up moaning, Moore is a lazy so-and-so, Cox looks like Scott Dobie, Reid looks like a poor mans miller, Miller's not fit. We need two strikers otherwise were in serious trouble.

  7. I will reiterate what I said at the beginning of the season. Our strikeforce is too lightweight and doesnt put any fear in any defence in this division. Wood is young and learning, too much pressure on him at the moment. Moore has gone back to the Moore of old, after his pre-season and early season promise. Bednar has been unlucky and the dope issue hasnt helped. Cox hasnt been given a chance, because RDM didnt sign him. Reid, well who is he? Miller, will he play again? Why not go in to the loan market? The forwards have scored 5 goals between them! Doesnt that say something? Do something RDM cos we will lose ground.
