Newcastle defender Danny Simpson is set to be fit for next Monday's trip to Sheffield United, according to boss Chris Hughton.

Simpson was missing for Saturday's win over Doncaster as he picked up an ankle problem in training.

However, the injury is not serious and the Manchester United loanee will almost certainly have recovered in time for the Bramall Lane encounter.

"Danny had a slight problem at the weekend but he should be back in training by the middle of the week," Hughton told the club's official website.

"If everything goes OK then he'll be available for Monday night."
