Toon consider Zurab appeal

Newcastle are considering an appeal against the red card Zurab Khizanishvili picked up against Doncaster.

The Georgia defender was dismissed by referee Darren Deadman five minutes from the end of Saturday's 2-1 win after a confrontation with Rovers striker Billy Sharp.

"It's one that we'll look at and scrutinise," said caretaker boss Chris Hughton. "My first reaction was that I couldn't believe it."

He added: "It seemed to be a skirmish that will happen in every game at some stage where you won't see a red card.

"I wouldn't rule out an appeal. The correct procedure is to have a good look at it and make sure we have got all our facts right."

  1. He was a pretty shocking ref. Seemed to be waiting to see what his assistants would say half of the time. Very poor decisions.
