Fabio Capello insists the FA have not been in contact regarding the England job, although he is expecting to be interviewed for the position. The former AC Milan and Real Madrid coach is believed to be one of the front-runners to replace the sacked Steve McClaren, largely because he is one of the few contenders not to rule himself out.
Capello has admitted he would consider taking the job, but insists the FA have not yet been in touch.
"There hasn't been any contact with the FA," he told Domenica Sportiva.
"I've read the newspapers and I will have an interview as I am one of the three or four candidates to become the new England manager.
"Like Spain, England have some great players but their national teams never win anything."
It has been suggested Capello would want an English and Italian speaker as his number two if he did take the England job and the 61-year-old admits Gianfranco Zola could be the ideal man.
"Could Gianfranco Zola be my assistant? It could be an interesting partnership but I know nothing of this," he said.
"What about Beckham? He was one of the players that helped me to win the league [with Real Madrid] and he is a good player."
