Spanish sponsor Banco Santander will move its backing from McLaren to Ferrari after the 2009 Formula One season, the bank's boss Emilio Botin has confirmed.
"Santander will be with Ferrari in 2010, yes," he is quoted as saying by the Spanish newspaper Diario AS.
Botin also made clear his desire to reunite the Santander logo with the car driven by Fernando Alonso, after the former double world champion left McLaren at the end of last year.
"Alonso is the best driver in the world and we would like to work with him, but that's not something that depends only on us," he insisted.
Ferrari's current race drivers Felipe Massa and Kimi Raikkonen are both contracted to the Italian team for 2009 and 2010.

your comment about the mclaren not being the best car is rubbish. mclaren did not win the constructors title not because of the car but because hekki was not up to the job. had hekki pulled his weight, lewis would not only have won more races, but would have trounced ferrari in the constructors
I don't think Hamilton is the best driver in the world, although I do think he is very good.
i don't think McLaren is the best car, Ferrari won the constructors title.
Howerver, I do think Hamilton in a McLaren was the best driver/car combination last year and that's what counts.
I do hope Alonso gets a Ferrari drive in the future, because that will be exciting to watch.
Santander is a major Spanish bank which brought sponsorship to McL when Alonso, a Spanish driver, joined that team. They must have been tied into a 3 year deal and, despite Alonso's departure, had to fulfil their contractual obligations (maybe they should have entered a clause which stipulated that the deal would cease should Alonso move from McL!). Santander are now moving their money, from 2010, to another top team where they expect 'their man' to be. Ferrari are obviously aware of Santander's aspirations in this regard and will, no doubt, endeavour to facilitate them in that regard. Its business, OK? End of story!!!!

The power of money should never be underestimated. This is just one example. Another recent example was Buemi getting Bourdais' seat because he has a bigger wallet; his talent as a driver was secondary. The list goes on and on .... Nothing surprises me any more.
Last time I checked Alonso was NOT the best driver in the world, Lewis is. Or maybe I missed who won the championship?
NO ALONSO is nummer one at FERRARI in 2010 MASSA and KIMI are both out, WHAT a pity for FERRARI a ONE MAN TEAM in 2010.
