Real Madrid striker Ruud van Nistelrooy is set for a return to the Premier League - with Liverpool and not Arsenal as expected.
The Dutchman is out of favour at the Bernabeu and is expected to be allowed to leave in January.
Discreet enquiries had been made by Arsenal, but the former Manchester United ace is set to snub a move to the Emirates in favour of a loan deal at Anfield.
Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez has been told he will have to fund his own transfer dealings this January, with Ryan Babel, Andriy Voronin and Andrea Dossena likely to leave, either permanently or, more likely, on loan in the New Year. (Daily Mirror)
In other big transfer news, David Villa has for the first time admitted he would like to play in England, putting both Chelsea and Manchester United on red alert.
The Valencia striker has always maintained that he would like to stay in Spain, but his failure to rule out a move to the Premier League will give hope to English clubs looking to snare the £40 million-rated striker.
Tottenham are eyeing up a swoop for unhappy Manchester City defender Micah Richards in the New Year.
Richards is struggling to get in Mark Hughes's first team at Eastlands but Harry Redknapp remains a huge admirer of the England international and is willing to help get the 21-year-old's career back on track at White Hart Lane. (Daily Mirror)
Underfire Bolton boss Gary Megson is still in a job - at least for the time being - but speculation is rife about possible replacements should he be given the boot.
Walter Zenga is the latest name to be thrown into the Reebok hat, with a source close to the former Italy international claiming an approach has already been made. Zenga was himself fired by Palermo on Monday, after a stay of just four months. (Daily Mirror)
Everton and Birmingham will battle it out for the signature of Nikola Zigic, Valencia's Serbian hitman. The giant striker is out of favour at the Mestalla and is available for a cut-price £6m. (The Sun)
Chelsea are set to beat West Ham to the signing of Livorno midfielder Antonio Candreva, who could fill the gap left by Michael Essien and John Obi Mikel's departure for the African Cup of Nations in January. (The Sun)
Both Blackburn and Burnley have joined the chase for Lincoln keeper Rob Birch. (The Sun)
And finally, Sunderland boss Steve Bruce is eyeing up a swoop for Athletic Bilbao midfielder Fran Yeste in January. The 29-year-old is out of contract next summer and is expected to reject the offer of a new deal over a wage dispute. (The Sun)

Another bad signing by the bad manager!!
Besiktas is not a high quality European team. Remember that They lost 8-0 to Liverpool and 6-0 to Leeds in CL in the past. The scenario would be the same if Sir Alex Ferguson had chosen the first line up. But this gamble of Fergoson's provided a remarkable chance for the Turkish champion and they deserved the win. Manu missed some important chances in the ext.time and Besiktas earned 3 important and vital points thanks to legandary Turkish national team captain and goalkeeper Rustu.
hanuman340 besiktas will tear your best available squad apart idiot.MU played with youngsters!!!!how can you even say something when we lose, your team has already lost 10000000000000000000000 times against teams that are worse or on par with besiktas
Babel on loan while Dossena and Voronin should be sold come Jan. Neestelroy is to Mighty Red as Owen is to Red
next to be out of champions league is MU. MU fans daydream that they going to win, but this season they will win nothing. even unknown team like besiktas can send them packed. wait for the last you will see what i said, it will sure another big team going to slip, mighty mu going to europa league. be ready mu fans. meanwhile saf still daydreaming he will get assistance from uefa ref, wake up sir alex, your time for retirement is long due.

Im an Arsenal supporter but Ruud and Torres up front would be a sick combo. I think Liverpool should go back to basics and just play 4-4-2.
