Blackpool boss Ian Holloway believes sworn enemies Preston provide the ideal "yardstick" for his own team to follow.
North End have been perennial promotion challengers in recent seasons and Holloway is keen to follow their blueprint.
The fierce Lancashire rivals clash at Bloomfield Road on Monday and Holloway said: "Preston got into the play-offs last season and nearly got promoted, so they are the yardstick for us to try and catch and overtake one day.
"If we can do that I'm sure the Blackpool fans will be happy.
"I have the utmost respect for Preston because they've been up and around the play-offs for as long as I can remember."

'Wallop' was the wrong word, sorry. Just meant 'win.' Preston are a very good side!
Yes,Preston have qualities, which 'Pool would do well to adopt. 'Pool are exciting when they make their 'sustained-passing attacks' ( you see them before the match in the warm up) they are entertaining to watch and can lead to goals from any of about 4 players. but I'm not so convinced about 'Pool's discipline in defence. Pundits call it 'keeping your shape.' To me it is about continual awareness of where to be when you haven't got the ball (which is most of the time), particularly at the back. I noticed 'Pool being undone time and time again at Reading last week. A more confident team than Reading could have put 3 past 'Pool before half time....... But 'Pool's passing looked good. Be warned!
Well said! Now go and wallop them! Up the 'Pool.
