Eurosport - Tue, 27 Jan 17:26:00 2009
Eurosport spent 60 seconds with former world snooker champion Terry Griffiths and learned that he has pimped up his ride so he can listen to some banging Elvis records.
If you could be one other famous person for a day who would it be?
No, I'm quite happy being myself thank you.
Who would you most like to mouth off?
Well, people do upset me occasionally - but that is my fault for getting upset so there is nobody I would really like to mouth off to.
What was your most embarrassing moment?
Ohh, I have had loads of those. There was one I can remember just recently. I coach a number of players and there was one player I was working with and I asked him about a shot that he had played in the previous match; he turned around and said 'no that wasn't my match, that was the other player's match' - that was embarrassing because players don't like it when you mix up their matches. I'm not naming names though!
What food would you never eat?
Any fish that moves on the plate! There is some fish that I do eat but in general I'm not a fish fan.
What is on your iPod?
I don't have one. I did have one but I gave it to my son because I only play music in my car where I've got a huge sound system. I do know how to work the iPod though!
What are the three things you most cherish?
My wife, my children and my grandchildren.
What would you like to achieve in the rest of your life?
Just peace, happiness and fulfilment for me and my family - really that is more than I can hope for.
Who are your sporting heroes?
In snooker it was Ray Reardon. In tennis it was Jimmy Connors. And in football it was George Best.
What was the worst country you have ever visited?
India - I just didn't like it there.
What was the first record you ever bought?
It was an Elvis Presley record. I'm trying to think of the name of the song, but I can't remember it. It was definitely an Elvis Presley record though. When I had a gramophone as a young boy that was the one record I had to play on it. Those were the days: just one record!
How can we make snooker sexier?
You are talking to a traditionalist now - I think that it is a great game and the play of the modern player is just fantastic, the quality of play is wonderful, the clash of personalities, all the things that make up a one-on-one sport.
Sexier? I don't know, perhaps you want some of the nice-looking young kids out there playing in white suits or whatever, but I wouldn't want to see much change in the game, the rules, the conduct or the presentation.

been there and yes India is a shithole
I do watch the snooker and find it interesting towards the later stages of tournaments but I definitely think the powers that be need to spice it up a bit, whatever that takes. You must remember, when Terry was playing snooker on T.V the Atari 2500 was the best games console on the market!!!!
terry theres lots of talk about revamping snooker, heres one idea any tourmant that is played you let the top sixteen in automatically but you also let anybody who has one the tourmanant in ,then your get all players the public like, like the jimmy whites.another idea a bit complicated no miss rule if the player misses 3 times he can offer the snooker to the other player and he has three goes if he hits the ball he wins that game,,, if he accepts ,,,if he he wont then he has to accept the fourth go by the player in the snooker hit or miss
NEIL W....GENIUS, PURE GENIUS!!
lol I love the comments having a go at Terry about the former World, UK and Masters champion being a non-entity - I wonder if they see the irony that they themselves are nobodies!?
...Good comment re: the mis-management of this country by the Lab Con-tricksters. But , who in their right minds , would want 2 join the BNP??? What are they capable of achieving, apart from being outright fascists, and maybe stirring up mass anarchy, given the chance......
Terry Griffiths - sounds a good, humble man. It would be good 2 C him play the occasional exhibition or "friendly" match, with one of the younger players perhaps........
My penniworth...I am an educated,worldly,broad-minded white 43 year old Englishman. I spent some time in India two years ago. I travelled widely, I met many local people from across the broad spectrum of Indian society. I attempted to immerse myself in Indian culture, art, heritage and history. I encountered life as a tourist,as a visitor and I sought to discover the lives of those I encountered. The transport workers, the hotel workers, the shopkeepers, stallholders, the wealthy, the beggars.I attempted to explore, discover and absorb.
After some time I came to the conclusion that India is a shithole.
Whilst travelling one day I spoke at length with an intelligent and eloquent English-speaking young Finnish lady.
I asked her her opinion of India. "It's a shithole" she said.
As someone who has worked in the defence industry I find it hard to understand how a country can choose to spend the incomprehensible sums of money required to establish and maintain a nuclear weapons program whilst allowing the vast majority of its population to exist in a sea of filth, whole families live under tarpaulins on unpaved pavements and unwashed women thrust their even more unwashed children in the faces of visitors, hoping to obtain a few rupees to take back to their good-for-nothing husbands. I came to understand why so many Indians have sought a better way of life in Europe.
But the saddest part of my experience is that in the two years since I returned I have actively kept my distance from all things Indian. I no longer go to Indian restaurants, I no longer visit my favourite Indian shops and there are other consequences which I am a little ashamed to describe in this forum. Use your imagination.
So, in summation, Terry Griffiths is a dull Welshman with the integrity to express an honest opinion when asked a question.
And India is a shithole.
are these the type of people (sinder90,arvie,vijay) who are responsable for turning this world into the pc nightmare it is today? terry is entitled to his opinion. although you have to question his taste in music!!!
and
@#$%
what a load of @#$% good on you terry
Lawrence your intelligence is the same size as your balls. I am not condoning any posts that are deemed racist before you commented, but your intellect is simply astounding. If one or two idiots makes a remark about T Griffiths saying not liking India is racist, then who has the problem? Let him talk @#$% but it does not mean that you reciprocate by lowering the tone even more. Do you understand? Or do you just talk @#$% as well? I think Arvie, Vijay and Lawrence need to get together
If this country is such a "non-entity" why is it that so many of your unwanted kind want to come here. Of course you should also remember that the British people were never asked if your kind were required here in this sceptered isle.
These foreign ingrates are NOT needed here, there is an alternative to the lies and mismanagement of this country by the Lib/Lab/Con-trickster...

Love the change of headline.
Bet you now get anti Elvis posts.
So, it's racist not to like a place, is it? So those of us that can't take the oppressive heat of India and have gastro-intestinal problems with the fayre are racist then. Thanks for educating me and pointing that out. Plank.
@#$% snooker player he was. Made Cliff Thorburn look brilliant. Reason he does'nt stand India is the welsh don't play cricket, they would run off the pitch and 5hag sheep instead
Boring, Boring , Boring man!
What is this world coming to when someone can't express his or her dislike for a particular country. Grow up !!!
good honest interview, anyone who took offence to this should really get a @#$% life .terroody legend and not a racist......................freedom of speech, you heard of it...............ed from maidenhead
Many sportsmen suffer in other countries. Boycott, Botham and others didn't like touring India. The country just didn't agree with them.
Doesn't make it a racial thing. Some people don't like the southern hemisphere.
Some of the soutern hemisphere guys hate it in England..too cold.
Why does anything like this always get turned into racial prejudice?
Some people are just so bloody sesitive, yes terry said he didnt really like india when he visited, so what, u have to be a moron to take offence to this, he is entitled to his opinion, dosn't make him bad person. I have usually had positive experience when speaking to indian people but u lot on here give ur fellow countrymen a bad name with u need to grow up and understand that not everyone can love your country. Yahoo should really concentrate on porducing more worthwhile stories than this trite, its hardly a worthy of a major headline, jsut to sir up a frenzy amongst the over sensitve idiots on here.
