Championship - Team news: Concerns mount for Reading
All the team news ahead of the weekend's two Championship fixtures, with Reading waiting on a number of injuries.
Both matches kick off at 3pm on Saturday
Peterborough United v Portsmouth
Captain Grant McCann is expected to return to the Peterborough starting XI. McCann made his comeback from a knee injury as a second-half substitute against Brighton last weekend, replacing on-loan Scott Wootton, who has since returned to Manchester United. The Northern Ireland international is now likely to start a game for the first time since suffering his injury at Leicester in December. Fellow midfielder Lee Frecklington is also fit to return to the squad following a five-week absence after undergoing groin surgery. An infected leg kept George Boyd out against Brighton but the forward should be available again, while Irish midfielder Danny Kearns could come back into the reckoning after he was rested against the Seagulls.
Aaron Mokoena and Tal Ben Haim should be fit for Portsmouth. South Africa international Mokoena missed last week's defeat at Cardiff with a hamstring strain but is expected to recover in time, with fellow defender Ben Haim expected to shake off a groin problem. Midfielder David Norris and striker Luke Varney are therefore the only absentees. Norris is in the middle of a three-match ban after he was shown a red card at West Ham a fortnight ago and has used the enforced break to undergo a hernia operation which could keep him out for an additional week. Varney is making good progress in his recovery from a knee injury but is not expected to travel.
Reading v Bristol City
Reading manager Brian McDermott is sweating over the fitness of several key first-team players. McDermott has doubts over captain Jobi McAnuff (groin) and midfielder Mikele Leigertwood (thigh), although defender Andy Griffin, who has sat out the last four matches with an Achilles injury, could be fit. Forward Mathieu Manset is also classed as a major doubt after tweaking his hamstring in a reserve-team match and winger Jimmy Kebe is in the process of recovering from a knee niggle. New signing Karl Sheppard has not played since December 15 and may not yet be ready for consideration as Reading look to bounce back from last Saturday's 1-0 home defeat to Hull. However, Jason Roberts and Tomasz Cywka could make their debuts after arriving from Blackburn and Derby respectively on Thursday.
Bristol City will be without midfielder Marvin Elliott. Elliott is still struggling with the hamstring injury he picked up during the 1-0 victory over Millwall at Ashton Gate on January 3 and will not be available to manager Derek McInnes against the Royals. McInnes will also be missing captain Liam Fontaine, who continues his recovery from a knee injury, and Ryan Taylor (foot) for the fixture. However, full-back Cole Skuse could feature after shrugging off the after-effects of a dead leg sustained in the 2-1 win over Doncaster last weekend.
