Brazilian defender Alex has been presented as a Paris Saint-Germain player in the French capital after completing his move from Chelsea.

PSG sporting director Leonardo joined Alex in addressing the media in a press conference broadcast live by PSG TV.

The 29-year-old joined Chelsea in 2004 but struggled for first-team football under Andre Villas-Boas this season and has now been reunited with former Blues boss Carlo Ancelotti.

French sports newspaper L'Equipe reported that the transfer fee was 5 million euros (£4.18m).

Alex said: "I had a problem with the coach, he doesn't like my football. I preferred to leave for another club."

The Brazil international had been the subject of interest from QPR but has chosen to move to the big-spending Ligue 1 side.

"He will be a PSG player. It was a good opportunity given his price and his desire to join PSG," Ancelotti told an news conference earlier in the day.

Alex, 29, joined Chelsea from Santos in 2004. He was loaned to PSV Eindhoven from 2004 to 2007.

He leaves Stamford Bridge having made 86 Premier League appearances for the Blues.

"He has a lot of experience because he played in the Dutch and English leagues and also with his national team," added Ancelotti, who took over from Antoine Kombouare as PSG coach last month.

"He is a great professional. I think he will have a good season."

Alex is PSG's second major signing during the January transfer window after fullback Maxwell joined from Barcelona.

Qatar-backed PSG, who spent more than 80 million euros last summer, have yet to buy a major striker, having failed to sign Alexandre Pato from AC Milan and Carlos Tevez from Manchester City.

Ancelotti is unconcerned, however, as PSG are not involved in the Champions League.

"When you play the Champions League you need four strikers. But to play the league and the Cup, (Kevin) Gameiro and (Guillaume) Hoarau are enough," the former Chelsea manager said.

  1. he has signed a uk centre half, 3 years younger and far more agile . That sounds like good business to me. Oh and he plays alongside Terry for England and is doing ok so maybe he could turn into a good player

  2. Thank God That Terry did not spoil him before he left. Good move though enjoy your world of soccer and the blues is going down like a fire

  3. It must be lonely for Terry, seeeing Desailly, Carvlex leave and allho and now and at national level he has witnessed the decline of a donkey called Rio. Hopefully, Cahill will develop into his full time partner over the next couple of years and should fill Alex's boots quiet easily.

  4. Sorry to see good players like Anelka and Alex leave, but thats the business driven side to football these days.

  5. Im sorry, i have to laugh at all the comments regarding Andres villa managerial skills. How did the most succesfull manager in english football Sir Alex Ferguson do in his first season with man utd????

  6. When a coach sell committed players and allow the controversial ones to stay you begin to wonder what really is his motive. Alex love for the club was never in doubt, he did not just hand in a transfer request something must have happened the same with Anelka. Its clear now avb is sacred of some of his players and these players are now dictating his every action. Unless something is done fast chelsea could drop out of the top four. Anyway, good luck ALEX, good luck ANELKA.

  7. selling Alex was not the best thing to do now may be at the end of the season would have been okay. anyway, l wish Alex the best. one man's (Carlo's) meat is another man's (AVB's) poison.

  8. PSG will be a treat for all the teams in Europe.

  9. I think it was stupid to sell him. He's decent and we could use a player like him at United, esp. with our injuries. I think it's smart business for Ancelotti to get him for so cheap. Who else from Chelsea will try to make the switch to PSG? Their players obviously don't like AVB. PSG is obviously the team to watch this year.

  10. Not a Chelsea fan, but letting Alex go and keeping Luiz, what the bloody hell? Luiz is struggling massively, a bit like Savic whereas in my eyes Alex was solid beside Terry.

  14. Post 4 MUFC Champions by 9 points

Why is a stupid Man U knobhead like yourself making reference to a footballer's age?

Especially when Alex is still far younger than your beloved Giggs and Scholes at Moanchester not-so-United.

    LMFAO

  15. AVB knew nothing he is a stupid coach, letting Alex leave and buying a player from a relegated club at higher cost..Avb think faster.

I thought PSV were ambitious but they have bought an over the hill defender who failed to make the grade in the premiership lol

  19. Good luck, and thanks for your loyal service over the years Alex, I sure am gonna miss the look on defenders faces when they line up in a wall against one of his thunderbolt free kicks!

I hope AVB knows what he's doing...
