Russia completed a clean sweep of the medals after the pairs free programme at the European Figure Skating Championships in Sheffield.

The results were unchanged from the short programme with world silver medallists Tatiana Volosozhar and Maxim Trankov taking gold with a solid 210.45 overall score.

Team-mates Vera Bazarova and Yuri Larionov and Ksenia Stolbova and Fedor Klimov completed the podium.

Trankov said: “Of course we are very happy and especially to have all Russian medals. We are one team, one family, and we worked for three medals today so we are very pleased.”

British pairs Stacey Kemp and David King, who made their Olympic debut in Vancouver, and Sally Hoolin and James Hunt finished eighth and 16th overall.

“That was really good for us," said King.

"There were strong elements. We’re really happy, our coach is happy and the crowd was happy. We only moved to Florida with our coach Jeremy Barrett last September and already we’ve improved such a lot.”
