Serie A - Milan fail to get Tevez, sign Lopez
AC Milan have signed striker Maxi Lopez from Catania after the Serie A club failed to reach agreement with Manchester City on Friday to bring in Argentina international Carlos Tevez on loan.
Milan had given the Premier League leaders until 7pm on Friday to accept the club's bid for the want-away striker, announcing the capture of Lopez on loan soon after the deadline expired.
"We were ever so close with City," Milan managing director Adriano Galliani told Milan Channel. "If someone had asked me at 6.30pm who would be coming, I would have said Tevez. But we've left things well with City and the misunderstandings have been overcome.
"The market opens again in four months, so perhaps it will be just a few months of separation with Carlitos. I did everything I could to bring him in. It was heart in the mouth stuff right up until the deadline."
Lopez, who had been waiting in the wings after being heavily linked to the Rossoneri for weeks, was signed on a loan deal that gives Milan the chance to buy the player outright at the end of the season.
"I kept my promise to Maxi and at 7pm when we had not reached a deal with City, we stamped his contract with the league. Maxi will be a useful player for us. He can also play in the Champions League."
Lopez, 27, who played alongside Tevez in Argentina's youth teams, scored 22 goals in 66 games for Catania following stints with Gremio, FC Moscow, Mallorca, Barcelona and River Plate.
Tevez has not kicked a ball for City since September after being banned and fined by the club for refusing to warm up during a Champions League match. He has been linked with moves to AC Milan, Inter Milan and Paris St Germain.

For ages i kept saying mancini dont want rid of tevez and that he wants to keep him at the club to use as a fall guy, for ages people have been saying im stupid, it seems i am right, as for tevez, from the begining of mancini time at man city he has had it out for tevez, you can see it in his face from early pictures of him looking at tevez, its like tevez did something to him years ago and he wont let it be, so now he went to man city and now he can do what he has always wanted, first was tevez asking to leave the club, mancini said yes but he has to get a replacement first, everything seemed ok, mancini bought the replacement, then mancini then decided to keep tevez, once he done that he decided not to play him, ask yourself this what would you do, he most prob went to mancini and asked can he have a move in january, mancini most prob said yes, but tevez asked can he not CL cup tie him for an easy move, mancini most prob agreed, but mancini still didnt play him, then came the CL game, mancini most prob went back on his word and told him to warm up, after tevez had already warmed up, tevez said he didnt need it, then all hell broke loose, instead of waiting till the next day mancini went on tv to make tevez to be the bad guy, lip readers backed tevez and mancini still attacked tevez, as i dont care for either mancini or tevez i can see what happend without being one one or the others side, tevez did make one big mistake buy staying in argintina, but i think mancini pushed him to it, alot has not been said other than tevez asked to go back becuase a family member was ill, i reckon mancini refused his request, now in january, any manager who want rid of a player as mch as mancini says he would have taken any offer, but wait he hasnt, so i say this, dont keep blaming tevez, look at the big picture, mancini got sacked from his last club for doing a similar thing. before mancini tevez was happy, with mancini nothing but trouble, now thumb me down as you all will
I still don't understand why Milan even want him.And talk about signing him during the summer?I thought he was an emergency back up for Cassano!Leave him at City where he can rot in the reserve's and get fined a weeks wage every 5 days so he's ever so slowly losing money!
Manchester City fans are not allowed to say anything negative about AC Milan! City are nothing compared to Milan and they should respect that! its like a local social club tennis player vs Roger Federer! :)
Much better with Lopez as he is not CL cup tied.
City are trash.... have fun in Europa League and being banned from Europe starting next season.....
signed,
SSC Napoli
omfg, "Safe Mode" you really are an ignorant.. please people, step it up a level or two with these comments.
when you are selling a house and it has problems , most people lower the price so you can get a quick sale and move on , but city..........!
Next time you want buy someone just cough up, losers!
please everyone should stop talking about Tevez as if he is nobody. remember what he did in Westham and manchester united.his a play maker. money is not everything. Tevez is a man riot.everyone has a bad side, let look at the manager side. you can beat a child and tell him not to cry. Lampard was benched for 2 times and media wouldn't stop talking. How long has Tevez been sidelined for before that day? On my opinion Mancini is not a good manager or he is confused, he doesn't know which player to play and when. buying someone millions does not mean buying his/her human right. so many things has gone wrong underground. let man city leave him to go if they think he is not good anymore. remember if anyone go over Sir F. you will not be thesame again, its an X factor.
i hope tevez will never gonna play again..
Oh! Milan have signed mighty Maxi Lopez. We're so scared Lolol.
No club with an ounce of sense is going to fork out 25-30 million upfront on a player who has gone through the year Tevez has. I really don't see who is going to buy him without some sort of trial, PSG perhaps?
too bad for tevez, no more CL games. not that he cares for those. glad hes staying with city (or wherever hes staying).
well done city stand firm ,tevez took on the wrong club this time, money his is motivation , but you dont mess with a billionaire he can play the money game all day long , if he stays away fine him 2 weeks wages for every week missing
why dosn't Tevez put some money into the pot ,as he keeps saying he just want to play football,or as he a few golf matches arranged .
Well thats a bit rich coming from Galliani...but it has all the hallmarks of Tevez's agent written all over it ...accept our offer or else...you sad italian....if we dont accept ..Tevez ends up getting fatter out in Argentina on no money, and stuck in a contract he cant get out of ...why because he wont publically apologise to his manager or players...well tough Tevez my heart bleeds for you.
Just think what you are missing out on - excellent run in league which should lead to Champions league football again, Europa football in February, reasonable run in league cup and majestic match against United in FA cup from both sides...must be great watching the golf ball drift into the distance like your career !!!!!!!!!!!!!
City's Chairman told Milan earlier this week....pay up, or shut up. Not hard is it Galliano, you snake? You know full well Milan don't have the cash....so stop flapping your lips.
CTID
It's quite simple..you pay the price and you can have him at 4 o'clock, 2:30..or whenever you fancy... How difficult is that.
Hell Right ...... Forza Milan .. After the match last night can wait to see milan in action at CH Leauge ,
hopefully including tevez! where he belongss not at city,
city doing well too , keep going !
The two players name ends with Z so do not be confused or gamble yourself Milan. anyway hope the 6pm deadline pass so that Tevez can go to Inter'
